I went from a 50cc scooter to a 600cc Bandit.

No problems so far... Twisted Evil

Yep, its the same as going to an RS or a Mito really without the unreliability but with some extra weight!

If you haven't got a full bike licence, probably not. I think if you have a full US bike licence it would be OK.

Without a full bike licence (UK or not) you're restricted to 125s, until you pass your test, and I think then you're restricted to 33BHP (technically) Twisted Evil

No, that's quite incorrect. Your insurance company will pay out, however, you'll be fined heavily for riding not in accordance to your licence and riding with invalidated insurance. You won't be left with a million pounds worth of debt or whatever. Laughing

Are you asking if the power affects the handling? If so, then it's only rider skill.
I've never been restricted, ever, went from the riding school's KH125 to a full power Bandit 600, then to a Triumph Daytona 600. I'm starting my IAM soon and I'm now derestricted. Was pulled over several times, restriction never came into it.

Thing is though. You're still gonna be paying insurance for a group 14 bike that isn't really a group 14 bike anymore because it's restricted. So i've been told anyway.

Not true. Around here outside a school some kid ran in the road in front of another kid on a 125, both collided. Kid on bike was physically fine, the kid who ran in the road died.

Outside the same school i was taken off my bike 4 months ago. Its still going throughout the CPS but there will be lots of injuries compensation if it goes my way, which it should as it was his fault.

But away the point is there insurance company didn't, they just looked at the damage and that was that. They even paid out for the bike and let me keep it, as it costs them too much to get rid of it.

Back to the main topic of the post, yes i think the restrictions will have a great effect on the bike. Not having any experience on a 600 but with the 500 it was very different when you take them out.

I would get it restricted, ride it around several months, get used to the bike and then if you really are bothered then, if you want to take them out.

My restricted 600 didn't have much more acceleration than my 2t 125.

The restriction is there so the bike is a more manageable step up.

Take them out, and even my 72bhp XJ600 flew.
Top speed of just over 100mph restricted, tad under 130mph derestricted, but got there a hellova lot quicker. Shocked Would lift the front wheel in first.

That sounds a bit quick for a restricted machine, my Bandit just get to 100mph...

Really what road car can beat a 33bhp bike?

The other day I beat an imprezza on my restricted SV650 by quite a bit, he only took me once I stopped accelerating since I hit 70 which was the limit on the road I'm not even that good at quick starts!

A few years back I had a Honda CBR600 f-t (1996) which was full power.

My mate had a similar bike (33bhp)

the max his bike did was indicated 105mph as opposed to indicated 155mph on full. acceleration difference was also very very noticeable!!!!

Sounds like your bike isn't restricted correctly mate!

I got beat by a Saxo VTS a couple of days ago...

I really don't know, but i've heard Vtwins are good to restrict due to the intact low down torque, don't quote me on that though.

The Saxo VTS has a 0-60 of something like 8 seconds doesn't it?

I would imagine a 33bhp bike to be about 5-5.5 seconds?

Someone with a more accurate 0-60 time for various bikes restricted please chime in!

Not necessarily.

2 bike plods were far more concerned with the state of my tyres than the lack of restriction after being caught "slightly" over the ton on an unrestricted GSX-R 600.
