Sundays lesson I was quite bad and got roasted by my instructor but I had a bit of careful practice yesterday, and todays lesson went well and instructor thought I would pass.

Fortunately at 3.30 there was a lot of traffic making me wait at junctions so I didnt have so much time moving to make mistakes.

5 minor faults and all spread out not more than one on any item. Better than my recent car pass which had a few on one category.

I will never have to slow down for a bend again ! I hope to keep up the observations, life savers etc, but some of the riding style they teach is a bit daft to me. Im gonna ride like a hooligan not a granny (but keep myself by being aware and doing observations).

I went straight to 3 dealerships to arrange test rides. My budget is £3000.
Im booked on Friday for a Honda dominator which was taken as part ex at a triumph delaer but they wont let me have a go on the speed triple.

The yamaha dealer near me has a lot of 2nd hand bikes but I had asked one bloke about test rides and he had not been very helpful. He had said I wd need to buy a bike and then I could return it to get my money back. I know there is another bloke who works there who is nice friendly polite helpful etc I thought he owned the place. I went up to him and he is arranging for me to test ride an sv650, a tdm850, yp250 and even a fazer 600 too for Thursday, but another bloody jobsworth says I can only do this if I arrange insurance. I think friendly bloke knew about this rule but was gonna be a bit helpful to make the sale until jobsworth intervened. grrr. I shd try to arrange cover but i suspect it will be a pain. Or I could try to corner nice bloke again and we can both bulshit each other into agreeing its ok for me to test ride without the paperwork.

The aprilia dealers greeted me at the door and wanted to diagnose my need for bike and tell me what to pick. He didnt expect me to spend so long telling him which threw him a bit. They have some more sporty second hand bikes here, but the guy was very firm that I couldnt ride any sports 600's let alone 1 litre bikes. I am booked for a rebel 250, suzuki XF650 freewind (single city trailie like the dominator) and a yp250 for Friday at 2pm

I wd have gone to a few more dealerships, but it was 5.30 by this time. There are another two I know of and I'm sure there are more if I look. The good thing is that none of them asked for cash as security, they just need ID and my pass test certificate. I had set my goal as test riding 20 bikes before I but one, but recently thought this was gonna be tricky. Now I see its gonna be ok but maybe not the range of bikes I'd like. I could get the cash if necessary but its a bit of a pain. All were happy about me having a proper hour test ride although the place that was gonna let me try 4 preferred i spend 15mins on each then try my favourite for an hour.

Its quite possible I will take a risk on something cheap on ebay, but its possible I might get something which has supposed to have been checked out so there are no faults. Although I can change brake pads, I'm not that mechanicly minded so getting my rs125 cheap, has cost me more on garage bills in the long run.

I am gonna resist the temptation to buy one of the bargains on ebay. This will be hard as some are half normal price, and a quarter of what a dealer asks.

I havnt even taken my L plates off yet, but I think I'll do that now. I really shd go on a motorway tomorrow even if its just from one junction to the next.

I really shd make some more progress on getting the gf to ride on the back now that I can carry her legally. Unfortunately she thinks I shd get a car instead.

they dont wanna let me out on a 600 cos they think it will be a bit much for me.

I have had too many lessons when I wasnt really focused. If I had got my shit together, I shd have been able to do it with 2 or 3 lessons, but my test date was quite a way after my first lesson, so I have had about 10 lessons, each about 2hours. So Ive done about 20 hours.

What I shd have done, is only ridden the dsa way since I got my system sheets and practices by myself as I have my own bike. When on my own I wd not tend to bother.

I think it was easier for me to pass this way tho (fast 125 for 9mnths, then lessons every 2 weeks for a a few months). Intensive ones might have got me thru quicker but wdnt have been much cheaper and I wdnt have been as good.

Right time of the year for buying bikes... they get a bit cheaper now. Ride it through the winter and you'll become a much better rider. Thumbs Up

Hmm if the company aint insured for you to ride the bikes and you go out on them, what happens if you get stopped or heaven forbid have an accident.

Think about it.

Thnx guys.
I got my current bike in the winter, and it was only fixed up ready to ride by the time of the ice and snow, so i was learning how to ride my bike last winter. I certainly concentrated hard when I had no idea if the tyres would slip away at any minute ! That probably why I do racing lines around all corners as if you try to turn square, on a slippy surface, you are more likely to slip than if you take a squarer dsa style corner.

Im probably gonna keep the RS and get a commuter style bike or scooter as a second bike.

I dont think I'd get much for the RS, and although its not good at some things, its great at others.

I might even keep the RS even if I get s sports 600. But I'd have to try one before Id know if its suitable for me.

I really shd find that bloke who saw me looking at his r1 and offered to sell it to me. I think he'd give me a test ride. I think I know where he works.

Id be quite willing to take the risk. I tried to ride back my rs125 from a salvage yard in stoke when I bought it. Technically I wdnt have been insured as it didnt have an mot, although I had arranged insurance. Fortunately it broke down on the way and a kindly bloke drove me home with my bike on his bike trailer. The way I see it Id be responsible so they could sue me or whatever. I suspect my insurance company will ask for a small fortune for me to have cover to do test rides as its not a normal addtion to my policy.

Apparently the yamaha delaer's insurance is only valid on people who have had their license 12 months. I spose I could argue I've nearly had my cbt 12 months.

Well done fella. Thought about doing your advanced maybe? You need a minimum of three months road experience after passing your test. It's the path I'm going to follow.

Killas right aboout not getting cocky, as i was doing silly speeds when i went to basset pole last night with mat. Another reason o keep he rs as i might be more silly if i had a faster bike.

I dont wanna do advanced training for the bike, but i might do pass plus for the car. Pass plus dops some car insurance by 30%. For me insurance for cars is expensive but for bikes its cheap so its not worth doing a course for the bike.
