Entering the village i slowed down for the pelican crossing, it was on red with school kids just starting to cross. I stopped and was sitting there for a while when i heard tyres screeching behind me. Then that feeling came over me, the one you get when you know something bad is about to happen and before i could even think....Bang! I get rammed up the arse.

It was a young lad and his mum in what i assume was his mums car (some little cheap korean thing) which was a right mess. It needs a new bumper, bonnet, wing, headlight and indicator. My bike has a little bit of the plastic mudguard that the number plate fastens to broken off, nothing else at all. Smile

I think their bumper rammed my tyre which absobed all the impact and i just got shunted forward a couple of inches. Thinking about it, it was a damn good job i had both the front and back brakes on otherwise i might have been pushed into the kids.

The guy driving wasn't speeding (i passed him on the open road before the village) and was very shook up and apologetic. And as his car needs about £700 worth of repair i wasn't going to kick him while he was down for a simple mistake so i decided to accept £50 and say no more.

My legs are still a bit wobbly but it could have been much worse.

Unlucky mate - Glad you are OK.

Should never had accepted that £50 though. In future swap insurance details and take it from there. Things may seem different at the time of the accident to after you've jad a chance to think about it.

I agree. if that much damage was done to the car you could ahve done a lto of hidden damage to your bike, eg bent frame/subframe, knackered bearings etc.

He was very luckyt to have the 50 quid accepted.

Least your ok, your rear end on your bike bullet proof or somthing? All that damaged to that car and all you got was a snaped mud-guard. Luck you was there in a way lough or it could of been the kids who would need the repair bill Confused

Simple mistake?? If it wasn't you it would have been the kids.

Oh and the 50 quid. Yeah that's good of you except it considering the damage to the car you don't know whether your frame/swinging arm is bent or not.

I think i was just very lucky.

I had the bike on the centrestand and checked the swingarm, wheel bearings ect. After having a reasonably good look at it everything seems straight and i've been out for a ride on it since and it feels fine.

He must have just about scrubbed off all his speed at the moment of impact otherwise i'd probably have been pushed much further forward regardless of having the brakes on.

As for the damage to his car, they must make those cheap little cars out of old coke cans.

Mate, I hope you're bike is ok.
The same thing happened to me 8 years ago on a cbr400.
I said at the time it would prob be about £300.

The repair estimate came through at £2700! Shocked

Im glad I never took any cash from her.

The other issue that arises out of accidents such as this, suppose you've injured yourself, but that injury doesn't show itself immediately.

Could cause problems later on.

had a lotus go into the back of my GPZ500 when I slammed on for grannies to cross the road... Visibly it cracked my number plate hanger, but everything else looked fine..
Took it for a check over and he had knackered my rear suspension and the frame was bent.... got his details at the time, though he did try and offer me money instead. Ended up writing it off as to get it fixed was more expensive than the value of the bike.

Apart from that, OMG: a MAN causing an accident? Shocked Unheard of, especially as there was a woman on the scene, too.

Nah, I reckon just a woman being there was enough to put him off Wink

As for the damage to the car, I think some of the body panels these days they design out of a really strong plastic material which is designed to crumple. Had it when I crashed my car a few years back and the damage looked worse than it was.

I'd still have been wary about accepting a payment for the damage to your bike there and then but you seem happy with it so never mind eh?

Well my bike is a bit tatty anyway and has a few bits wrong with it. Had it been a really nice expensive one i'd definatly have let the insurers deal with it.

I really hope there isn't any hidden damage but considering the force i was hit at (not very hard) i'm 99% sure it's fine. It's coming off the road in the winter anyway for a fix up so i'll see.

(btw, i think it might have been the constant jabbering in from the woman his ear that made him crash. Wink Razz )

Good to hear your alright. Very Happy

Also good to hear about someone who's honest. Too many people in that situation would have been hoping up and down demanding a new bike, new gear, new lid and god knows how much compensation for time off work and all sorts of other s**t people make up in a claim these days.

You decided your bike was okay, you where okay and you made sure the other bloke was alright. Then you took his offer of compensation and got on with it.

So for that. You can have Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Same kind of situation happened to me today-but the other way round.

I was following a car going down a school lane when the crossing light turned orange. The pillock in front slams the brakes on (we could both have gone through the orange light) so i hit the front brakes and do a small stoppie to avoid hitting him.

All the kids thought it was cool but i was crapping myself!

Good to hear you're ok though! Cool

It can be a bit nervy but at least you're carrying on biking! Smile
