Go buy a bigger bike then. What's the problem? If you want your dad to agree, then maybe you could take some further training? My dad's "you're not quite ready yet" attitude always pushes me to try a bit harder and learn more on the bike, has turned me into a much safer rider.

i know personaly what i would say "f**k rite of, think il do what i like"

then again im not the most considerate person i know Smile

or is he paying /contrubting to the bike fund?? if so maybe talk to him without shouting an talk to him liek you know what your doing get sum facts/prices anything that would be involved in getting the new bike,, he wil then take more notices of you wanting a bigger bike, rather than just saying no straigh out...

if he's not paying for it then just get it anyway,, whats he gana do? be pissed off? so what thats perants jobs Smile

Talk him through it properly, do some advanced training - speaking of which, have you done your DAS yet?

If you can show him you're a responsible rider, someone who can be trusted on a poweful machine, he's probably more likely to let you do it!

I find bigger bikes much more safe than a scooter.
Those tiny wheels took everything and i crashed twice on my scooter breaking my leg Evil or Very Mad

At least now with my bike i just ride over any shit bits of road.

Hahahahaha!

Do what every kid does... get the bike, keep it in a mates garage simple...

i did this, i bought my 125 before i was 17 off of ebay, sorted everything myself and kept parents in the quiet. i kept it in my mates garage, would go round and toy with it whenever i could. eventually brought it home one day and said "tada!" look at my new bike mum and dad!

course my dads a copper, he looked it up on the national database to make sure it wasnt reported stolen (not that i stole it but checking the guy i bought it from hadnt stolen it) and immediatly rang me on my mobile and said

"it says here its been registered in your name for 8 months??"

The easiest way to convince him is to prove that you've improved your riding skills. Like I said, get training. I don't know what level you're at, but get your CBT or full licence done, or at least the BikeSafe (dad might be impressed, as it is run by the Police).

Show you're a careful and responsible rider and he'll change your mind. He might also be more susceptible to a 125cc or 250cc instead of 400cc.

Good Sound Advice, I'm with Vespa on this one.

yep.. as vespa and bandit bitch have said.......

you need to prove to your dad that you are mature and responsible enough to have a 400 when you turn 17. Don't throw a 'kevin' temper tantrum on him or anything like that because it will do you no good Rolling Eyes

a moped to a 400 is a massive jump! you haven't stated the nature of yr crash on yr ped ( maybe you did on another thread lol) the circumstances of that may lead yr dad to believe that yr not ready to have a 400 yet.

grit yr teeth, do all the training and studying you can for yr test etc and make sure yr dad sees all the effort you make and how much this 400 means to you etc

good luck Thumbs Up

I came off my ped about a month after I got it, cut my leg up but that was about it.

At the time my mother was really set against me getting another bike, wanted me to sell the ped etc. etc, but my dad was the complete opposite. He explained that everyone comes off their first bike, and not to worry about it.

10 months later and he was helping me out by driving me up to get my NSR Dance!

hey type, id say the best thing you can do is be straight with your dad, go for advanced training, your only young and you'll have many years of safe riding ahead of you. get the advanced training under your belt and it is likely to prove to your dad that you want to ride well and it will also reduce your insurence as at your age it will cost you a pretty penny to insure a bigger bike. when youve done your advanced, then talk your dad round, he will probably be more likely to compromise with you once youve proven you really want this.
good luck Thumbs Up

A bigger bike is a safer bike:

Better brakes
More power to get out of a dangerous situation
Better handling...

The only factor is the rider, you really have to prove to your father that you are a sensible and safe rider.
Take a training course, ride your current bike for a period of time, improve your riding skills. You will feel happier progressing to a more powerful bike and so will your father.
