I spent yesterday driving a harley mostly on big long and straight american roads... and I enjoyed it.

Observations about harleys and riding in america:

ground clearance was fucking terrible when I did actually have to make turns.

Saddlebags whilst looking incredibly gay, are actually really useful.

People on harleys don't nod, they wave.

They really don't rev much.

They're really fuckin' noisy.

the kickstands are really hard to reach.,

Sportsbikers still nod to you. :o

Lids are optional in Utah, I wore one anyway.

It cost me about 3 quid to fill the tank.

People drive on the wrong side of the road, soppy bastards.
Ok, 'm done.

I love Harleys but then I love all bikes!! Don't knock it till you've tried is what I say. Go and test ride one before you slag them off so at least you know what you're on about and not just going along with what the hardcore sports riders say.

The beast I took out the other week definately didn't like the red line rev's! Made funny noises and lost power.

I had thought that cruiser rider were just rude to non-cruiser riders, but the other day i took a rebel 250 for a test ride and nodded to a couple of cruiser riders and neither responded.

In some ways im pleased about this, they dont have a predjudice against sportsbike riders, they just dont like being friendly.

The rebel 250 was quite nice going in a stright line but not much fun in stop go traffic or doing any kind of turning.

I did and I still slagged them off (ok it was a big honda cruiser) - none of what I consider to be good about 'bikes' seemed to be present really, while a lot of the bad things I dislike about both bikes and cars seemed to be present.

Problem I see is, most people compare cruisers to the kind of bike they're used to. So, if you ride sports bikes and then suddenly jump on a cruiser, it takes a lot not to slag them off.

I had one for a 125. Looking back on it, I'm really glad I didn't get a rs125. Smile

Of course, I don't really like harley's themself, they look a bit too dated for me, but like japanese cruisers. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I did try and approach it with an open mind, comparing it too all other vehicles I've driven.

As I said, it seemed to me to not offer much over a half decent car, apart from the width - but even that you can't make as much use of as on other bikes.

where in the manual does it say cruisers perform just as well as tuned road bikes? You've Gotta be a bit stupid to jump on a cruiser and expect it to get down and take corners the same as a road bike. They are designed for a whole different purpose. I prefer cruisers because most are unfaired and 80% of the work you do on them I can do on a stool without taking fairings off or damaging them. The riding style I prefer aswell especially with my dodgy back. All road bikes look exactly the same to me I honestly cant see much of a difference between them all. I think that's just me though. I hate harleys because of their image, i'd only have one if it was a really old one even then it wouldn't be my first choice.

Can I ask something, is it every biker that thinks you 'have to' not at every single bike you ride past or just every member on here it seems? You don't wave at every car you go past when driving so why do it to every bike? Maybe your trying to concentrate on the road or you have things on your mind and would rather not nod at someone going the other way. If the same model bike or car goes past i'll nod but it would irritate me getting nodded at by everything.

They all wave back in the states. Thing is, when you wave on a Harley, the natural thing to do is to wave your left hand sideways off the handlebar. Fine in the USA where they drive on the wrong side of the road. Over here, you can't see it if you are heading in the opposite direction.

It indicates to the other rider that the road ahead is clear of hazards such as potholes, gravel and speed traps. If you nodded or waved at cars, they wouldn't notice, too busy talking on their mobile.

It is also sociable and polite. I nod to complete strangers and say hello when I am walking down the street. If they ask how I am, I tell them, enquire after their health then listen to their answer.

Visiting at the moment. Place called Bountiful... there are lots of mormons here, they have churches and temples and apparently the more children you have the better mormon you are, hence families of 5+ children being a common sight.

Anyway, if you're gonna move here, make sure you stay in Salt Lake City.

i've ridden a harley 883 sportster, and what can i say, i love bikes period. but harley's stand out from jap bikes because of the fucking growl they produce from the V twin. unfortunately i rode one for something like 80 miles. let me say this, after that ride, someone could have literally kicked my ass and i wouldn't have felt a thing! they really aren't tourers!

The American Biker Greeting Code is as follows: You only wave to those on a similar bikes while in town (and don't expect a wave back) as there are so many bikes around. A nod is only occasionally returned by bikers outside one's class and a wave is almost always ignored or returned in a sullen 'do I have to' manner.

On the open road, however, you can almost always expect a friendly wave: the American wave being an arm outstretched almost horizontal, in a lazy fist, with the index and middle fingers 3/4 extended.

Any overly-excited full extention of the arm, misguided five-digitted wave, or giving a 'peace' sign will be tolerated by no one but the lowliest of farmer's sons on dusty, dung-stained 125 singles. And sometimes not even then.

Hope this is helpful.

eye, salt lake city's nice, I was thinking maybe moving out to logan seems a nice place, Bountiful anywhere near their?
Probably better than it is here I suspect with the muslim mosks round every corner, difference is they take over the whole street buying and selling houses to family. Turns into a big ghetto Sad Crying or Very sad Peaceful enough people ain't they mormons? what they like the majority of them?
