when you first see the hazard develop press once. If the hazard becomes more hazardous, press again but only press a maximum of once a second.

If you only press once and dont press again when the hazard gets worse, you will be reducing your score.

If you press too many times, or appear to be pressing when there are no hazards, you will be marked down.

Click when you see that something is going to make you want to change direction or speed. Then click again roughly five seconds before it will affect you, then again just before it affects you. Seemed to work for me both times I sat the hazard perception. I found I was clicking too early the second time round because I was clicking when I saw a hazard, not when the computer wanted me to see the hazard. Confused

Oh yea, try and take your fingers well off the buttons when there's no hazard, I clicked a few times by accident Embarassed .

You must click every time there is something that causes you to take action or could become a potential hazard. When a car starts to signal is a good example. Also, the road itself, such as blind corners, central reservations, zebra and PeLiCon crossings, and crests can all be hazards. Click again when the hazard has passed. click each time you think the situation changes Using this advice, i got 64 out of 75, which is a damn safe pass.

well at first i clicked when i saw a hazard and sorced like 40ish and didnt understand why, now i click like a mad man (only when i see a hazard) so if you see one click, gets worse click, makes you move/stop click and should pick up some points, this technique helped me pass today! 51/75 got 65 in practise but a pass is a pass!

Do you already drive a car, many people including myself have found that prev road experience causes issues with hazard perception.

The chap at the local pearson centre I used for my motorcycle theory Advised me that the test is aimed at novices and as such the small area of time that is the clicable scoring zone might be 1-3 seconds after an experienced road user will click.

sure enough I failed the first time, and passed the second time by seeing the hazard counting to 2 then clicking.

An example in my test was a situation where the car you are in is travelling uphill on a straight road with no junctions, it is very foggy and you can see the tail lights of a car in front (just), the car indicates right, pulls out slightly and then tucks back in, (this is the point at which I clicked it being pretty clear that the car had just pulled out to go around something) as your vehicle travels forward sure enough you come across a cyclist which suddenly looms out of the fog, (this is the point You are expected to click) hence I failed, not because I failed to detect the hazard but because I detected the hazard to early. i think i had this problem!!i ahve been riding for 1 1/2 now and done over 6000miles in that time and know how to react (i like to think i can) first time and got 40/75 and 4 of the clips got 0/5 and know i clicked for every hazard! this time and clicked early, then again and then sometimes a further time just to make sure as last time i think i should of passed as got load of 5/5's in it. imo is a rubbish test

Could we not have had this thread a couple of days ago ? I just sat my bike theory test today. Aced the questions section then totally screwed up the hazard perception. I've been driving a car for about 10 years.

After reading all this I reckon I was probably clicking too early...then not clicking again incase I got the big X screen for clicking too much. Example: Car coming from side road way to fast *clicked*, car continues up to junction, brakes, rolls out onto main road, slow down and avoid.

Rebooked for Tuesday morning and another £21...bastards.

Not amused at all when the test centre guy told me. So pissed off that it made me want to go out and kill some kittens Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Just keep practicing with the CDs.

Think about it, you see a predestrian you click, they might walk out.

Read the screen as if your riding/driving, what might happen, not what will happen.

You see a kid playing on the pavement I click, you look for feet under parked cars, you look for mud / diesel on the road.

What Hazard perception doesn't do is encorporate, Life savers/ Mirror checks, cos I have had to react to idiots coming at me from behind.

Just spend like a week practicing and you'll ace it.

I think the way it is described is "anytime you have to change speed or direction", but obviously keep your eye on developing hazards
