Again inspired by the spills counter.

How many people have damaged/broken their bike by an act of stupidity, forgetfulness or cack-handedness.

These should not be a crash unless it is something like a gearbox seizure due to forgetting to put oil back in or going over the handlebars due to not removing the disc lock.

I would count stripping a thread, but not shearing a seized bolt (which happens to the best of us at times). Dropping a stationary bike through not putting a foot/stand down definately counts.

I'll start the ball rolling:

1) stinkwheel- Parked on soft grass with no puck under the stand. Bike fell over while looking for an empty can. Scrub one mirror, another crack in the fairing.
2) stinkwheel- Knocked bike over in garage. Broken clutch lever.
3) stinkwheel- Dropped a steering yoke on the tank. Big dent.

There is no point in ranting about someone stupid because there is nothing u can do about it. There is no cure for stupid.
Someone stupid does not realise they r stupid.stupidity is indistinguishable from malice U just have to accept that some people are thick as p1gsh1t and work around them.

33) Nath - Dropped bike whilst trying to do a 3-point turn in stoke-on-trent, too near a curb. Had owned the bike less than 2mths.

This time whilst stopped at some traffic lights I stood up to stretch whilst still holding the clutch, and inexplicably just somehow lost my balance I now believe Stoke on Trent holds some kind of curse for me(those are the only two times i've ever been), and I do not intend to go there again without a very good reason, or at least not on any bike I'm bothered about dropping!
35) Nath - On the first day of my trip to Spain I dropped the bike trying to put it on the center stand in France. And because of the luggage on it I needed help to pick it back up Damage was a broken footpeg which I was increadibly lucky to obtain an hour or two later in Rouen, despite language difficulties.
36) Nath - In Toulon in France, I thought I could get out of a pay car park without paying by riding over the raised curb thing seperating the entrance/exit lanes. It was several feet wide and an incline as the exit lane was a few feet higher than the entrance. The bike didn't have the grunt to force its way over the curb which was at least a foot high, but with a run up I went flying over it till the rear wheel hits the lower curb and there's not enough momentum left to clear it. The front wheel is now just past the other kerb on the exit ramp, with the rear wheel still on the entrance ramp, with only a few inches of movement so I can't jerk the rear wheel up over the kerb. After a minute or so of really giving it some and bouncing up and down on the seat and all I have to show is the smell of burnt rubber from much rear wheel spinning. Checking around to see that no-one had wittnessed this failure(was a quiet sunday morning) I admitted defeat and managed to bounce the front wheel back over the upper kerb to descend back onto the exit ramp - However in doing so I noticed the engine had grounded out I managed to leave the carpark by riding up the entrance lane where there was a gap next to the barrier(unlike the exit), before doing a damage check to reveal a nice dent in the bottom of one down pipe (though luckily hard to see due to being on the underside). Despite making a right racket for over a minute no-one had noticed me, which was good considering I was covered in sweat and bright red, and would have been very embarrassed had anyone asked me what I was doing I would have took a photo of the bike stuck there, but there was no way to support it as there wasn't enough space to stick the sidestand down.

18) ZZR Girl - riding downhill out of the car park of a bike cafe on my GS500, knowing people were watching, took hand off bar to put down visor and automatically countersteered into a wooden fence. Damage to the fence, dent to casing and scratch on fairing. Massive bruising to ego.
19) Andy13_uk - Yestaday moving my bike backward into my side passage where i keep it and was really tired and back it into wall not the sidepassage! dent in rear of bike now, well a big scratch/dent.

21) McJam - stopped on ZX-6R, pushed sidestand down, got off, bike falls over as the stand wasn't all the way forward. Cue Shaun gobsmacked by my complete lack of reaction.

23) Walloper Almost dropped bike on pannier box reversing out space and back tyre hit kerb. Had to swing my leg off to lift the bike up.
Pulled every muscle.

25) After picking the hornet form the garage put on side stand on thh drive. opened garage, wheeled bike in went to put it on side stand, bike fell trapping jay between bike and wall. Small step on entrance to garage had pushed the stand up as I moved the bike. No damage to bike, jay is soft to fall against.
26) Drummer - Had CB400N on mainstand over night with a car jack undr the engine (no front end on it) didn't realise the car jack had a slow leak... woke up next morning with bike on the ground... dented tank
27) Method - Racing round the front drive to get around my mums car quicker... suddenly realising the grass was wet and i was heading for the wall - Scratch one clutch lever.
28) Method - Left oil filler cap unscrewed... did 30miles to kings lynn before realising my leg was soaked and my frame was black - Scrub £5 for a oil top up.
29) Method - When i had my NSR i was pushing it out of the garage... dropped it into the shed door, = 1 large dent in the tank

This time whilst stopped at some traffic lights I stood up to stretch whilst still holding the clutch, and inexplicably just somehow lost my balance Embarassed I now believe Stoke on Trent holds some kind of curse for me(those are the only two times i've ever been), and I do not intend to go there again without a very good reason, or at least not on any bike I'm bothered about dropping!

And because of the luggage on it I needed help to pick it back up Sad Damage was a broken footpeg which I was increadibly lucky to obtain an hour or two later in Rouen, despite language difficulties.
36) Nath - In Toulon in France, I thought I could get out of a pay car park without paying by riding over the raised curb thing seperating the entrance/exit lanes. It was several feet wide and an incline as the exit lane was a few feet higher than the entrance. The bike didn't have the grunt to force its way over the curb which was at least a foot high, but with a run up I went flying over it till the rear wheel hits the lower curb and there's not enough momentum left to clear it. The front wheel is now just past the other kerb on the exit ramp, with the rear wheel still on the entrance ramp, with only a few inches of movement so I can't jerk the rear wheel up over the kerb. After a minute or so of really giving it some and bouncing up and down on the seat and all I have to show is the smell of burnt rubber from much rear wheel spinning. Checking around to see that no-one had wittnessed this failure(was a quiet sunday morning) I admitted defeat and managed to bounce the front wheel back over the upper kerb to descend back onto the exit ramp - However in doing so I noticed the engine had grounded out Shocked I managed to leave the carpark by riding up the entrance lane where there was a gap next to the barrier(unlike the exit), before doing a damage check to reveal a nice dent in the bottom of one down pipe Doh! (though luckily hard to see due to being on the underside). Despite making a right racket for over a minute no-one had noticed me, which was good considering I was covered in sweat and bright red, and would have been very embarrassed had anyone asked me what I was doing Embarassed I would have took a photo of the bike stuck there, but there was no way to support it as there wasn't enough space to stick the sidestand down.
37) Mattish - lost rear end in oil but kept it upright, came to a stop to calm down and dropped bike on leg having forgotten to put it on stand on (6hrs in casulty later thankfully no broken bones! )

While in france this summer,

forgot that panniers make a bike wider than normal
forgot that steel bins on concrete mounts don't move much
forgot that the panniers will have to move AROUND said bin, not over it or through it.
forgot that my left leg isn't 6 inches longer than my right meaning I can't reach down to the road while the bike's on the pavement, but getting rapidly closer and closer to the road

thanking the good lord bob for crash-bobbins, and that nice french chap that helped me pick the bike up again...

CarsBoreMe - Young foolish days, pair of shorts, brand new trainers on a TS50ER. Trying to corner like a sportsbike (tight corner so only doing around 20) and the thing went from under me. Knackered trainers, tarmac in foot peg.... gravelrash to legs!!

CarsBoreMe - Year later on a CB125RS, at full lean on a not so fast road round a blind corner to find a stationary car. Hit brakes and over we go again. Damage to indicators and bent handlebars.

CarsBoreMe's Mate - In those days when torn jeans were the craze - he stopped in front of me on a busy road to turn right, went to put his foot down and caught a tear on the footpeg. Funniest thing I have ever seen as he fell still straddling the bike desperately trying to free his leg. No damage to him or bike but his ego took a hit (car drivers thought it was hilarious).
