Where's the post about hand held speed guns being innacurate? My web page usage is monitored at work so I can't keep hitting pages on the same web site a lot.

49 in a 30. The guy in question had the laser in his hand and they got me from a distance of 950 feet (increasing the margin of error?)

The point that I'm interested in in Kickstarts post is the following:
BBC TV programme "Inside Out" have been testing a laser speed meter, and will broadcast this evening a film showing two laser speed meters pointing at the same vehicle showing markedly different speeds...
...Under UK law, offences must be proven 'beyond a reasonable doubt'

Initially, I'm going to ask for the calibration certificate of the laser, but wondered if it was worth going to court over the innacuracy issue.

I would have thought that going to court to test the innacuracy of the speed gun would cost an awful lot of money.
I can't remember correctly but I think there was a guy in MCN a few weeks ago who got a no win no fee lawyer to take on his case. He was using the same argument as you. How long it will take I don't know.

Specifically:
It is quite possible for the signal from a large vehicle some distance behind a smaller vehicle to override the signal from the nearer vehicle. - There was a car behind me.

and

HANDHELD RADARS MUST BE AIMED AT YOUR BIKE FOR A MINIMUM OF THREE SECONDS FOR A VALID CHECK, WITHIN A DISTANCE OF 200 METRES - they measured me from 941 feet - 286.8 metres!

The link dates from 2001 though, so I hope the law hasn't changed.

...and I've forgone access to evidence because I signed at the roadside. Doh. Meaning I won't be able to find out if it was radar or laser until the court case. Didn't think about contesting it until after the fact.

The MUST give you the evidence before the court case. However they try and minimise your chances by giving it to you as late as possible (week or so before the court date).

Not sure. The chances of them dropping it are virtually nill and they are more used to terrorising people into paying up without going to court.

I would suggest you speak you an experienced legal bod (check on Pepipoo as there are a few on there with reasonable rates), and it might well be worth keeping you powder dry, so to speak, until the court case.

The bit in MCN mentions someone taking it to court. Riders name is Yessin Meggaro and he is being represented by Kirwins Solicitors (in the Wirral) on 0151 608 9078.
