I Recently brought a little Kawasaki KH125 to use as a work hack to commute 30 miles a day to work mainly because of the current weather and that my YZF1000R isn’t the best bike to commute on. One thing that l have really noticed is the altitude of other road users (including bigger bikes) towards me, drivers pull out of junctions/cut me up/tail gate me/verbal abusive for filtering etc, l had little or none of this on my 1000cc bike and all previous 250cc+ bikes l have owned. Its like being on L plates again.

Do people have more respect for what they call big bikes and automatically think someone riding a 125cc is a pratt with no L plates?

In general, yes.
Ask anyone on Visordown Smile.
They all do their DAS's and go straight onto R1's and GSX1300R's there Smile .

Well sit up straight then.

More seriously, they will only take the piss if you let them. Don't let them! Eye contact is the key. Yes, I DO own the road.

Too right. I've had no end of trouble with people believing they can take the piss as I've got L's on. However, don't let them and in the main they'll back off.
There was a BMW driver once, who was so incensed at me filtering past him he followed me all the way to the skate park and pulled in behind me to block me from escaping (I wear my board strapped across my back). Of course when the seventeen year old rider of the L plated bike turned out to be a 30 year old bloke who wasn't about to be intimidated by a middle management phone salesman and had almost certainly held a driving licence for near on a decade longer....
The L plates became somewhat immaterial Very Happy

I never had a problem when I rode my DT! Either I was completely oblivious to it or I rode like a nutter!

Maybe the high seat on a DT gives you more altitude? Laughing

i've just gotta say what the hell!!! people cutting you up? verbaly abusing you? i dont get none of that when i ride my 125, thats for sure! i've not had one person ever tailgate me..that i can honeslty remember. and i sure as hell dont get stick off people... when i fillter in and out the traffic if i feel like doing it,

infact i find that 8/10 cars i pass will do everything they can to move out the way. and in somecase if i dont have my ipod on.... i even get people asking me what cc my bike is, how fast does it go, and do i know i have an out of date tax disc!!

i get alot of respect from bigger bikes to, so many seem to give me the nod, or a little handwave! and of course i nod back and if i have time.... give a little wave! and again... i've had bigger bikes pull up next to me saying nice bike, etc...

so i would have to say...in my exprerince being on a 125, its been a pretty good deal! would not change it for anything..... maybe a black R6

I do get more attitude from drivers when I'm riding the TZR250 than I do when on the TT600. It may have something to do with the two stroke soundtrack.

18Aprilia... Have you ever thought that people might be getting out of your way because of the way you ride rather than what you ride? Wink

Personally I don't let it faze me because the TZR is more maneuverable, so when I get people cutting me up or pulling out I can move out of the way and around the obstacle more easily.

In the awful traffic of Reading town centre, I'd much rather commute on the TZR than the TT6 if I want to get there quickly tbh.

i had a few moments and heated debates with other road users when i had the CBR125, had one taxi driver hurl abuse at me because i was able to get through the queues of traffic faster than him. i had chavs in their corsa's and saxo's wanting to race me, they got a shock i tell thee when the 125 was able to pull away from them till i hit about 60 but i stopped accelerating by then anyway and they'd normally just screem off ahead and not look at me

only 1 thing has come to mind when i have the 600. i filtered down to the front of a queue wait at a set of traffic lights. the tool on my right side wasn't pleased about it and tried to squeeze me in between his car and the other, i just accelerated away.

It's the where that's the deciding factor IMO. Gridlocked traffic in a major city centre=pissed off cagers and therefore more abuse. Driving on country/ town roads and people are just generally more relaxed.

i find its not too bad on a RS as it looks like a bigger bike to many car drivers (bike are never fooled!) i find if you ride gently people dont make an effort to get out of my way but if im going for it and overtaking alot they move stright out of the way, it all about road presence i think, if you look unconfident then they never move and will have a go if you filter etc etc. still get some wa*kers though Evil or Very Mad

I always get people pulling out on me. They see a scooter and assume it's only going about 30 - 45 at tops. They don't realise im travelling closer to 60, so i just tailgate them. I'll put my main beam on to really p!ss em off when i replace the bulb.

Is it just me or does anyone else thing that 45+ year olds on those big auto scooters are an unfriendly bunch? Almost every rider on a 125 to an R1 Will "give me the nod" as we pass by (on my Divvy). These middle aged middle managers seem to just stare ahead and pay me no attention.

Go figure.

Thats cos if they were bikers they would buy a bike. They are cagers attempting to beat the congestion charge, nothing more.

Same with me when I hired an XT350 for a few days, no one dared give my any shit. (mainly because I was looking down at car drivers)
