Hi folks, does anyone here have any experience with the UK/European Breakdown Service that comes as standard with all of Carole Nash's insurance policies? I am thinking about taking a policy out with Carole Nash, who are £20 dearer than my cheapest quote but I figured that the European Breakdown Cover is worth a lot more than the £20 difference. I do travel to Europe on my bike so it would come in handy.

My question is how good is the service that is provided with the Carol Nash cover? Does it cover you for accidents as well as breakdowns in Europe? Does it provide any onward travel for the rider and does it cover bike repatriation if it can't be fixed etc? Anyone with advice or experience regarding Carole Nash's European Breakdown Cover please feel free to post your thoughts.

Hi... I cann't comment on the European Side of the breakdown cover... But certainly in the UK if the bike can'nt be fixed at the side of the road you will get onward travel...I can say for certain that one of the recovery companies used ONLY specialise in bikes..Unlike many other organistions such as the AA where most of the recovery guys aint got a clue about a bike..

Of course the best place to ask is Carole Nash themselves!

If I remember correctly, they would want to know when you're going abroad and for how long. You have two separate numbers - one for UK breakdown cover, and one for E.U. cover. With regards EU cover, they'll take your bike to a garage first, and then if nothing can be done, they'll take the bike all the way back home. This is what I was told.

I can't remember if there was a "limit" on days you are allocated for E.U. cover, but I'm pretty sure you have to let them know when and for how long you are going in any case.

Speak to them. Thumbs Up

Their UK beakdown cover service was quick and easy to use.

The Euro breakdown cover is probably worth £80-£100.

However, one nasty little clause I saw in the handbooks small print was that if it was deemed more expensive to transport the bike back than the bike was actually worth they could leave it there Confused

Still, that's a last resort and for what you're paying it's good value.

AA European Breakdown cover has the same/a similar clause.

For anyone interested, 3weeks European cover on my 17yr old bike cost over £120 with the AA. If the Carol Nash service is good then it's deffinately something worth considering.

They [any EU/UK breakdown cover service] love to include loads of hidden terms and conditions, which is why I would say speak to them.

We simply wouldn't know them all.

For example, on my old UK cover, they would only transport your bike a 30 miles radius from your location for free, the rest you would have to pay for. Rolling Eyes . They are all slightly different, some "worse" than others.

Thanks for all of the advice guys. In case you are interested I have opted for the Carole Nash insurance cover for this next year so I can rest easy on the European Breakdown cover issue. Hopefully though I won't have to use it... Smile

You have 60 days cover in the EU, you need to inform them though so yhey can issue the green ticket thingy to make it legal to drive in Europe

Is that the insurance, or breakdown though? The green card is for insurance purposes only, and I believe no longer required in EU countries(they should accept your certificate of insurance).
