I think that just life in general. Some people are spending alot of money and they just want to make sure it's the right decision.
Colinwall on the other hand, now he's a different story. ____________________ the undemocratically unelected mod of the Scottish section |

It is good to get an unbiased oppinion on a bike.
Frankly, the couple of times I have done one of those threads, it is more to get people thinking about how there is more to life than just sports-bikes rather than a genuine need for advice
Plus I like talking about motorbikes.
Anyway. How dare a woman suggest men are indecisive when it comes to buying stuff. At least we will go into a motorbike shop bercause we are looking to buy a motorbike rather than wandering in and out of every bloody shop on the high street "Just to see if there is anything I like.". ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. I bought a wreck of a machine turned it round to be an arse of a machine, will never do that again. Depends what you want to do on the road, are you commuting or just a fun person, or do want to go like hell and bend every rule there is, the choice is far and wide.
personally, just have fun within your budget or more if you can afford it, I say go for it, sod the expense, if your partner has to live in the shed, so be it. ____________________ You all a bunch of arse holes! |

OK, I concede. I'm sorry a couple of you considered my post boring and rated it accordingly, but to be honest, I was finding all the 'what bike should I get' posts boring too.
However, all the replies posted are very valid and I can now appreciate that there is a lot of value in people asking the forum what bike should I buy.

When it comes to buying bikes men become like women buying shoes. Spend hours visiting different shops, trying different syles, different sizes, different colours, then going back and buying the first one you tried. ____________________ Where does a turn end? Where is COLINWALL in this thread? ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. here I am !
the situation for me is I have passed my test but only get a 1 year no claims bonus in December.
Then I will switch insurers and get a bike.
If I tried to add a big bike to my existing policy, it would cost a lot more than I am willing to pay. Im not gonna stay with my current insurer as they are quite expensive compared to others.
I have been scanning ebay since I passed and have test ridden a few different bikes. I agree with kickstart that weighing up the options is half the fun. I was the same when I bought some hifi separates. I ended up getting a good stereo for the money but I spend a lot of time studying hifi mags. great fun
I didnt assume I was gonna get a sportsbike (the obvious choice for someoen who rides a rs125). I tried scooters, big trailbikes and a cruiser, a budget 600 and some sports 600's and a sports tourer.
I am getting a 250 scooter I won on ebay but I dont know yet what motorbike Im gonna get, if I'm gonna get one at all.
If I get one I will probably leave it until march or december.
I have seen a few bargains on ebay and have been tempted (recently by a £300 '90 VFR750).
Bikes are quite cheap for me (29) to insure so I could have several for the price of insuring a ford fiesta.
The obvious choice is not always the best choice. I could have just bought the first bike that I test rode and liked. Nothing wrong with that bike but others have been better.
Originally I was gonna buy a nice bike when I passed my test, but I have ended up lending the money to my girlfriend who was paying silly percent on some of her debt.
I will have a bit more money in a few months time so i might wait until then and get a £2500 bike instead of a £500 bike.
The other extreme is people who buy a bike before they pass their test. Sods law dictates that these people often fail their tests so I wasnt gonna take that risk.
My original plan was to test ride 20 bikes before I buy anything but I have not really stuck to that by getting the cheap scooter. I might try to stick to it before I get a big bike tho.
The only thing is I dont wanna be picking up bikes from miles away in bad weather so it might be better for me to get soemthing before or after the weather gets too nasty. ____________________ colin1 is officially faster than god |

Its worth asking for the ideas on bikes you'd never have thought of/knew existed, or to shoot one down that you thought was perfect but the engine reliably explodes 1000miles after the millage on the clock of the one your looking at..
Allthough the pure "what bike should i get, ive got £xxxx" are a bit tiresome... roads its being used on? luggage? height? comfort? speed? faring? e.t.c. all of these are important, one great thing about bikes is they all have their own strengths, but then its still peoples opinion..
Comeing in with a shortlist means people here have an idea of the sort of bike they're looking for... ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |
