Thats very dangerous. I'm a cyclist too, and in my club, thats our fear, to be driven over from behind! You see cyclist don't have leather jackets etc, just a helmet. A friend of mine, had to wear something on his back(don't know how its called) for 6 months because a car fell on him. Now he's the best weather predictor in the team...

Got to add to the above comments, that IMHO while cyclists and Horses do not pay road Tax they should always give priority to Tax paying vehicles. What annoys me is when local cycle clubs think that if they stick up a couple of "cycle race" signs all of a sudden they have the right to ride 4-5 abreast and can ignore all the road rules, It also seems to give them the right to hurl abuse at any motorist who actually dares to use that road at the time.

Yes there are idiots on bikes (just as there are in cars, on horses and on motorcycles). Deal with these yes, but leave most alone.

If you are overtaking a bicycle give them space. If you are on a bicycle then do not block the road to faster traffic.

Of course I don't block the road to other vehicles. Mostly other vehicles block the road to me.
This has nothing to do with taxes.
When I take part in a race, of course we don't follow the traffic rules, but the race goes in appointment with the police, the roads get closed for some hours, the parked cars removed by the police(if the race is in a centre of a town), and the police cares that no other vehicles enter the race area. There is also a small announcment in the local newspaper that these roads will be closed from that time to that time.
I also fell more unsecure while on my bicycle than on my motorbike.
I think we schould all respect cyclists, as long as they don't do silly or dangerous things of course.

Before I got my bike I didn't pay road tax. Crossing the road to the shop was something of a smuggling trip. Quite exciting really. Customs never caught me.

Maybe there are a few bikers who think cylcists are dangerous and shouldnt be allowed on the roads, but I bet there are for mroe motorists who think motorbikers are dangerous and shouldnt be allowed on the road.

If the government was faced with a choice of making bicycles illegal or motorbikes illegal, I doubt that they would be banning pushbikes.

To be honest that guy going past wouldnt have bothered me much. You would/should of heard him coming along and you would be amazed at how close some cars get to you, also how much room some give you. If you got worked up/scared by it you wouldnt cycle on roads, simple as that.

Sometimes an ok cyclist (ie myself) will hog the road and look as though were about to crash to put people off making silly manouveres. The amount of people who cant judge the width of a traffic island properly is atrocious, big 4x4's are terrible, white vans are good. Also think about when a cyclist is going past a line of cars why we sit near the middle of the road? The same reason as when you ride a motorcycle surprisingly.

Must admit I don't have many good things to say about cyclists.

My mate at work is mad in to cycling, but he also cycles when drunk, ie 5 or 6 pints, he always says its legal.

Only thing he could still swerve and cause a car to crash.

Personaly I think that cycles should be insured and licensed like in Sweden.

That rider was being dangerous, cyclists shouldnt be banned at all. Using them in the countryside is a little risky, as people often forget about them on b-roads, and a-roads for that matter. i'd recommend cyclists to use lights during the day, most motorcyclists do, and it doesn't do any harm.

I Ride mountain bikes alot (average about 70-100 miles a week, far higher if im off work, and this is on a downhill bike!) I personally NEVER ride on the road unless really forced to. Its bloody dangerous! Even if the car drivers are paying any attention they dont know what you are going to do, but 90% of car drivers just dont take any notice of us!
