I think he tried ebaying it before, but withdrew it after abuse from people from forums Mr. Green

Ask for a dyno printout. I reckon 35bhp is possible, as RS125s are ment to put out 30-33.

question asked...

Quote:
If it's just had a cylinder rebuild, then do you know why the headgasket has gone?

Do you have a dyno readout for the 35bhp?

thanks

isn't the SP a normal NSR with a single seat??

I'm not sure that 35bhp is possible with an NSR.

The RS125 doesn't make a *real* rear wheel 33bhp... and that has a better engine...?

a 125 2 stroke screamer can make up to 70hp. But not for long.

30 horsepower is not unreasonable, 35 sounds a bit high.

RS125 makes 29.5bhp at rear wheel, ifaik NSR make about ~25-27, if it 35 i can see a rebuild coming very soon again

the reply...

Hi, we believe the gasket had flaws in it but naturally cant be sure exactly why but its likely to hav been down to the fact that it was in storage for 2 months and perished a little. Bike was dyno'd (inconsistent as 2 stroke engines are) average 35.4bhp @ 10200rpm and this was for purposes of interest and i have no printouts im afraid. Thanks for interest, Rich.

i'v responded, pointing out it was my understaning that the only way power in escess of 30bhp at the wheel were possible on an NSR125 was with the Polini 160cc kit, and a race exhaust. I've asked for him to confirm that it has the 160cc kit Wink

lets see if there's a reply.

I love baiting bullshitters Very Happy

I know that it's probably bullshit about the engine and all that, but it does look very nice for an NSR.. first time I've seen an SP Shocked

actually.. in thinking about it...

I've never heard of a headgasket perishing over 2 months.. I'm SURE they lie in stock in the bike shop for longer than that...
and my current bike sat for several months before being put thru the MOT just before I bought it..

I think I need to invest in some.........

hi, no that kit isnt fitted as that would give a figure of around 40+bhp and this isnt that powerful. Dont you think i would have said in the listing if it was bored upto 160cc????????

He's got balls for sticking by his argument anyway Very Happy

anyone got any resources showing definitavely the power output of a stock NSR, and that of a tuned one? I fancy ragging this pillock a bit longer Smile

There were SP versions of the NSR, same as there was of the RS and the Mito.

Very much doubt it has anything like 35hp. Suspect what they have done is just dynoed it with a massively high correction factor to make it look impressive.

Stock RS in the original PB road test made 28.5hp at the back wheel. Fairly certain newer ones have less power (smaller carb, designed to run on lower octane fuel, etc).

All the best

I've asked this:

Quote:
Hi. You say it was dyno'd at 35.4hp. I'm going to bid, and my terms of contract will be that I dyno this bike and it must be within 10% of your claim. There shouldn't be a problem as you dyno'd it before, it's just a shame you lost the read outs. Hope I win. Cheers

Hi again, in keeping this friendly as possible, you know as well as i do that there are no terms of contract and no legal obligatory terms that tie either of us into a contract and for you to have claim over me you must have the dyno printout otherwise anything taken at face value has no binding legal qualities, if you are to bid then its up to you to see, test and survey the bike. on the exchange of money/payment in return for the bike, anything from there is considered 'sold as seen' and hence there exists no binding between us and as im not a dealer in trade and am not professional, its up to you to seek 3rd party acessment of what you are buying, if you have no intention to buy then dont bid. Thanks.

I've asked if I can dyno it before auction ends (my dad owns a garage with dyno)

Yes ive heard of NSR125SP models, seeing as the NSR was built in Italy, they have had to compete with the factory tuned versions of the Gilera's, Aprilia's, Cagiva's, and the Italian versions of the TZR's which were always the fastest of all the TZR models. It might have a big 34mm carb like some of the Aprilia's etc, and a bit of tuning over the std NSR125, but 35bhp at the crank is possible although doubtful. If he means rear wheel figures then you can just forget it!
The 94> NSR125 has only got 26.5bhp at the crank according to the Spanish Honda broacher, so thats about 22-23bhp at the rear wheel, based on about 15% transmission loss which seems to be the norm. The SP NSR would have maybe 4-5bhp more, but it's unlikely to be much over 30/32bhp at the crank i would say. I remember hearing that the Aprilia RS125SP had a claimed 36bhp at the crank, but if this is true, then its only just over 30bhp at the wheel, which is very high for a road going 125.
As Keith said the early RS125's were proved to make 28-29bhp at the back wheel, which would confirm about 32-34bhp at the crank, but the latest bikes, have a catalyst, a more restrictive pipe, and other changes, and i think they only claim 28bhp at the engine now, not the wheel.
I do expect that 35bhp at the rear wheel is quite possible with the 160cc Polini kit and a race pipe, but then it's not a 125 then is it!

Speaking to Peter Knight (Rotax specialist) he says that the barrel is exactly the same on the RS125SP and the normal RS125. If there is any difference in power then it will be down to the ignition and pipe, and I suspect they are the same as well.

Biggest difference was the forks, rear shock, light wheels, better tyres and the catch tank on the fairing for the gearbox breather pipe.

All the best

Keith
