If the CBR6F is "too much of a tourer" then what about the F-Sport? OK, maybe not 'cos it's actually another insurance group higher...I also notice that you haven't bothered looking at the Kwak? (yeah, I don't like 'em either )
I would say Gixer or CBR...but at the end of the day, it's your choice and you should see if you could get some test rides first.
The main problem with the Dook is that not only will you need finance to buy the bike, you'll also need it to maintain it! Contrary to popular opinion (including my own ), as long you keep the Dooks sweet, you shouldn't have any problems, but I personally wouldn't recommend them if you're likely to rely on the bike for travelling etc.
If you just wanna build up no-claims, then what about a naked 600? A Hornet, Fazer, Bandit, or maybe even the SV are all cheaper to buy and insure (in most cases). ____________________ TiN

I personally think that the last carb-fuelled CBRs looked good, and the fact they're a few years old now should reduce the insurance premium further. ____________________ TiN

CBR6 a tourer... and heres me thinking I have a lovely little sports bike
I assume you have a full licence?! if so get test rides to see which you prefere
I find the CBR very forgiving, not as likely to turn round and bite you as the R6.
the GSXR never really appealed to me so I didnt look at it

I've ridden 'em all except the RS250 which is MENTAL .. don't buy one for the road.. someone said it's an experienced rider's second bike and this is dead right. It's a race bike with lights. I said somewhere else that I was seriously embarrassed by one at Cadwell park.. they have no straight line speed to speak of - compared to my ZX9 but they can keep it nailed through all the fast sweepers, suicidal overtaking and undertaking is essential to maintain track times.
Mid you he did highside it at Mansfield corner tho' and got carted off in an Amblyance with his bike in small bits.
I rode a Ducati 748 on a track for a while and it was the most uncomfortable riding experience of my life, very heavy on the wrists and cramped on the thighs - not really for prolonged road use.
A new(ish) CBR600 is no way like a tourer in my book, they are not far off the lap times of 80's race bikes, it's just that Honda softened them up to make them more user friendly and that sounds like just what you need.
The R6, Gixer, 748 and RS are all a bit extreme for a first big road bike, you won't get the best out of them without extensive track riding to build experience, confidence and speed.
Sounds like the best bet is the CBR (or a ZX6 - which is in a similar league until this years model which is knife edge stuff, built for the track)
Whatever, enjoy and play safe ____________________ 187.3bhp = 201mph |
