When it says 'Shut off the throttle' does it mean let it go or physically twist it closed?

Ta.

You should always roll the throttle off rather than let it go, then you are in control.

Wheelie + shut off the throttle should never happen unless you want to hurt yourself Laughing

Well for starters, shutting the throttle off won't get the wheel up Wink Laughing

Roll the throttle on while slipping the clutch, then let the clutch out once the revs have risen should get the front up.

Roll off the throttle to set it down. Snap it shut and you'll probably land awkwardly. Roll it of and you should set it down more gently.

Aaaaah i see what you mean.

I/he was referring to the initial part of getting the front wheel up- go at 5-10 mph then ''shut the throttle'' and snap it open again.

Although yes, i agree with what you are saying! Razz

The only reason I can see to shut the throttle off before opening it again, is to get the bike up off power using the rebound in the forks to help lift the front. (The forks will compress under engine breaking.) But I would have thought you need to be going faster than 10mph in the first place.

If the bike is not capable of lifting simply by pinning the throttle open, you would need high revs to get max power as you close and then re-open the throttle.

I find dabbing the rear brake hard as well as shutting the throttle creates more rebound in the forks and with a little dip on the clutch sends the front wheel skyward on any bike with ease.

If the front wheel flys up violently rather than attempting to control it with rolling off the throttle, and risk loosing the wheelie altogether, i quick shift into the next gear. That seems to put a halt on the violent up surge and you invariably end up somewhere around the balance point.

This technique was mastered over about 3 years on a ZX7R and i can honestly say that the lighter the bike the easier it is. Works a treat on 400's for instance.

I just recentley passed my test & started riding a GSXR600, after riding 125's for nearly 2 years, and have yet to master the art of the wheelie.

I find if I go up to about 6-7000 revs in 1st gear then 'rive' the throttle back, the front end will lift quite nicely, but then I shit myself & ease it back down! Embarassed It probably only goes about a foot/foot & a half off the ground, but there you go!

Trouble is, I'm a bit wary of doing a wheelie off the clutch on a 600. I used to try & do it on my first bike (TDR 125), it would only just work but it would make a nasty *clunk* noise, which immediately put me off! And apart from that, I don't want it to chuck me off or anything either (the 600 that is). Neutral

I use to get a clunking noise on some of the smaller bikes i rode too. But you shouldn't have a problem with that on your gixxer6, as long as your bikes in good mechanical order. Besides, you'll be surprised how little clutch you actually need.

In this instance, when they say 'shut off the throttle' they mean turn the throttle back with your hand.

It's more of just a dip, so your hand goes up, then comes back down quickly.
