i going to buy a new helmet soon as my old one has had it and coming to winter i think its important, anyways this helmet RRP about £100, going 1/2 price, anyone had/have one?any good?

https://www.racevisors.co.uk/index.cfm/view_id/4/details/true/code/X-SHA-AIR

With shipping its £60, any comments would be good...

EDIT: i will make sure i try one on at a shop before buying over the net as i know badly fitting helmets are a big no no

This isn't from experience, but they look pretty poor to me. A cheap helmet that looks quite flashy normally means poor build quality.

They might say it's £100 normally, but they are still making a profit, probably slightly less than normal, but not £40 less.

Honestly if you're spending £60 on a helmet I'd go for cheap and cheerful, I got a Lazer for £70 and it's very good, save the visor misting up very easily.

Oh and DON'T buy Takachi, whatever you do, I got one and sent it back, the quality was the worst I've ever seen.

Urgh, argh, good god man, they're....for want of a better word.....bollocks.

Now, I am used to having a flip up lid with it's own little wind skirt on it so might be used to its comforts but everything about the s500 reeked of cheapness. It's notchy visor mechanism. The visor itself. 2 days after I had it and there were cracks on the little aerodynamic bits. Steams up. Very loud. (louder than my caberg)

That, was in my opinion, the worst thing I have ever wasted my money on.

I know some people may love them but perhaps they're used to wearing crap on their head!!

£100?

Well, to be honest buddy, I would only ever buy a helmet in a sale, something like a bike show (going to the nec?) That way you get to see all sorts of styles and makes and try them all on without the hassle of looking for a particular type you like the look of after you googled for helmets on the net.

I'd recommend cabergs jsut for practicality but some people really don't feel safe in them.

Saving too much?

Good god no mate. It is under my impression that all of these helmets are made to a specific safety level, where they tend to get expensive is when they have fancy paint jobs, lighter materials used or better venting options.

As I say, I don't rate the s500 highly at all but I am used to something completely different. Many people buy sharks so go for it if it feels right.

£100 is fine. My £80 lid has served me well the last 3.5 years. And she'll keep going for another 5 if I have anything to do with it.

Have you tried one on?? NO, well then, there is your answer!

I had a cheap FM (£100) , I liked it, fitted well and after my first crash done the job. 2nd helmet, Shoei Raid, £180, crashed, done its job again but was a milion times better than my FM.

BUT the important thing was they both fitted my skull like a glove!!

I would NEVER buy a helmet online, get your ass to a shop, try every helmet on in the shop, the one that fits best is the best. Really, no point in a £400 Arai if it doesn't fit? Arai and AGV don't fit my head so..... Confused Thumbs Up

I suggest the "Nitro N900-V"

Its a good looking helmet, also cheap and is really safe as i have found out from my first off.
A lot of the impact was to my head ( landed on my face to be upfront ) the visor never shattered, after landing face on i spun and the back of my head smacked the ground a good few times. Took it to Victor devine the next day to get a new visor and asked him to to check see if its done or not. He checked and double checked and said it feels like its brand new just some costmetic damage which i got some spare clip on's from Nitro for a tenner Thumbs Up

Decision is up to you at the end of the day Wink

I've had one, and got to say, I like it, apart from one major downfall, with the (illegal) dark visor, 90mph+ shoulder checks and the visor lifts up, and the clear one fogs up a bit.

Other than that, no issues here! Thumbs Up
