first of all , put your battery on charge for 8-12 hours at 0.5 Amps
then try . if it's the same , 2 options :
- starter relay is worn
- starter motor needs maintenance : change brushes, springs then commutator cleaning and oiling the mobile parts

You could have worn brushes in your starter motor. The click is the starter relay. If you dont hear the starter motor turning, the brushes are probably not making contact with the comutator.

it could also be that the engine wont turn over. ive had this once with mine when the floats had stuck and the engine had filled with petrol, but other things could cause it. it could be seized but im sure you would have noticed it if it happend.

this was a sign of a badly maintained bike . the starter motor has a mobile pinion which need to be lubricated time to time (once every 2-3 years) ! Sad

What a lot of silly posts.

As the search function will attest to, with instances of this popping up in this forum at least 4 times a week, your problem is a dead battery.

Dead battery doesn't have enough power to turn the engine over. Tis the season for them to fail a lot. The clicking is the starter relay and engaging and disengaging.

Well a dead battery certainly wasn't the cause of my starting problem, so nah nah Razz

not always the fault.

My starter failed but my battery was fine (virtually new)

the starters have a solenoid starter switch atached or built into the startermotor, when you press the ingnition switch a small amp wire operates the solenoid switch which creates a contact through the soleniod to the motor and the main live feed from the battery the soleniod is a type of electro magnetic switch and can sometimes get fouled with carbon from electric arcs from contact wear (you hear the sound of the solenoid click across but due to the carbon deposit it cannot create the circuit to the battery) tapping it with a spanner sometimes cause it to create a circuit but if you can dismantle the solenoid or get some spray contact oil in it, it might solve your problems I find GT85 oil the best dont bother with WD40. sorry its long winded
But Hope this helps

As well as the above it's quite coomon for the the starter gear to fail, it no longer throws out but you would hear the starter motor.

So I just spray with GT85 oil into the starter motor?
