When my MT50 broke down numerous times, the only people who ever stopped for me were car drivers.

Yeahh when my throttle cable snapped.

Only person stopped for me were car drivers, offered to drive me where I needed to go.

I would recommend you get some AA cover mate. (They did me proud last time and i'll have nowt said against them).

And make sure you have a fully charged and credit available phone at all times. I personaly have 2 phones, 1 just for emergencies. That comes everywhere with me on the bike.

(Some places where I like to ride are very very remote, ie 1 car an hour sort of places).
-----
What can a biker realy do in this situation, a car driver, could get you oil and perhaps would have tools in the boot (I probably would have had enough gear in the Mondeo to get you sorted, including oil.).

I stopped on the M25 and attracted a police biker! Not something you want when you've got no tax. The MZ had this habit of losing power, so I coasted onto the hard shoulder, and looked right and BAM fucking massive Pan euro with blues and twos.

But when the same thing happened on the M4, a damn egyptian bloke pulled up (after swerving across 3 lanes) to ask us directions!

Took us 7 hours to get to Bristol.

Sucked.

You should try and look at it from the positive angle, hard at the time.

Assume no-one is going to help you and have plans so that you can get it sorted. Tools for known problems, ie my bike sometimes get's flooded and I then need to carry a spark plug and necessary tools. Plus other bits like cable ties etc..

A phone to call a family member/mate. And lastly breakdown cover just incase.

If someone stops to help and is able to then it's a bonus and be thankful. If they dont then it's no loss, just do what you are able to.

I've broken down once in Central London, on a roundabout, in the rain. I was trying to push the bike (140kg), but struggling. The only person to stop was a bike cop, who pushed it on the pavement, and put a sticker on it so I wouldn't get a ticket. This was before I had a breakdown cover. When I got back after work, it started first time!

Now I've got breakdown cover, all the way from my front door (not just a mile away, as with most policies), and I get priority service, being a woman.

Coming back from the coast to-day up the A29 I stopped in a lay-by for a smoke. A few moments later another biker on a very big bike Shocked pulled in alongside me and asked if all was OK. After telling him " yes thanks" he said "enjoy" and was gone Cool

Thanks for your concern M8 Thumbs Up

when i blew my RS engine i pulled into the middle (was a duel carrage way and rear wheel locked at 100mph so was quite shaken) i guy on a big naked bike went past as about 80mph and breaked hard and pulled into middle and walked back about 100m and asked if i was k, i wasnt as in the middle of road and he helped me accross the busy deul carrage way.

To me some bikers go beond the call of duty, this guy did and got me out of so much trouble! Thumbs Up

I've stopped for a few people in the last couple of days, one couple on an R1, who said they were waiting for their friend to catch up, and a bloke on a CBR600 who'd just bought the bike and hadn't bothered to check there was fuel in it.... Rolling Eyes

But his dad had just turned up with a can of petrol, so I went on my merry way. Actually, now i come to think of it, i havent actually helped any of the people I have stopped for yet...ah well, its the thought that counts...hopefully.

I stop for every bike i see at the side of the road and out of the 20+ bikes i've stopped for the only time I've been able to help was a 16 ish year old lad who's throttle cable had snapped so i let him use my phone to call his dad and we waited with him until his dad got there. The last thing i said to him was to return the favour to another biker if they need it. I was glad when the big 4X4 stopped and blocked the traffic when my girlfriend broke down on her Gilera on a busy dual carridgeway.

Heres one for you:

You pull other to help a stranded biker hes about 16-18 and has run out of gas says he has no money for petrol, would you give him money or tell him you cant help but let him use your phone.

I would how about you guys, i have found near enough every biker i have ever met to be trust worthy so i dont see why not and so what if they con you its $15 or £15 (sorry dont know how much it would take to fill up a bike in uk any more) its the thought that counts.

I think this underlines a key split down the middle of the riders out there. There are those who join the community, have most likely been riding bikes since they could walk, and always have a good ol' tinker with the bike at the weekend. Then there's the rich thrill-seeking show off boys who wouldn't know a spark plug if someone shoved it up their ass, then wired it to their CDI. Guess which ones would stop, and which wouldn't...

I've stopped for a quite a few bikes, some needing help, one case they were just having a fag on the hard shoulder of a motorway to motorway sliproad!
I always stop if it's safe to do so and it seems like they need help.

I always give the Thumbs Up if I'm ok - had plenty of bikers look like they're going to stop when I haven't needed it

One thing I did notice on my trip to the sunny South Coast (ha ha) today was that I got a fair number of nods/waves from solo bikers Thumbs Up but none from thems carrying pillions Thumbs Down . Is this a case of the "don't you dare acknowledge other bikers when I'm on the back" syndrome? Laughing

I must admit, i've passed a rider before without stopping, a few weeks after cbt, i think his kwak's clutch gave up, and he had to stop on a dual carriageway right next to the town centre. I felt a bit shitty about it, but i was a wee little inexperienced newby, plus i figured he wasn't too far from help being right next to the town centre.
