Anyone got one?

If so, let me know what it's like, a review if you will, whats good and whats bad. What goes wrong with them and what to look out for if you were buying second hand. In particular, earlier models, 98-00

Cheers Smile

I've got an Aprilia Tuono which is the same as an early Mille but with high bars and it doesn't have a fairing. Before I bought mine I had a test ride on a Mille and really liked it apart from the low bars and pressure on your wrists, I do a lot of town riding. When I told the dealer this he suggested the Tuono and after less than a mile I decided it was the bike for me. I wouldn't say that you need to be tall, I'm 5'9" and don't have any problems at all.

The bike has excellent suspension, chassis and brakes and the engine is great. I bought the bike from Bikerworld in East Grinstead, but I've used Southern Cross in North London for servicing (who are great, and even set the suspension up for me at no charge) https://www.southerncrossmotorcycles.co.uk/.

If you want more advice I suggest you try here:

Not enough for a tuono, £3k is my upmost limit but there are a few bargains kicking about that have extremely low mileage - obviously just left in the garage.

Dunno about the 'standard' models, but my old man had a go on an RSV Factory and said it was by far and away the best bike he'd ever ridden, and he's ridden a hell of a lot of bikes. As far as I know the 'standard' ones are pretty much the same bike just without the flash suspension and what not, so I cant see them being that much worse to be honest.

The only little niggle I have with the rsv is the service requirements. I know they're high maintenance machinery but does it really have to be done by an aprilia dealer?

Yes.
Afaik the Aprilia 1000cc 60 degree Vee is a dry sump engine which needs a specialist tool and specialist knowledge to even change the oil... (iirc). Smile

^6Yes, I'm presuming so. Vtwins are thirsty machines and I was willing to overlook that if everything else was semi-reasonable. Dealer only servicing puts that idea out the window I guess. Sad

Friend of mine has one, and I ride with him on it every so often.

It's quick as fuck, although he hasn't done top whack with us as we were only on 600s at the time. But this thing is pretty as hell, and sounds good enough to actually make me sex wee.

He's fairly loaded, and he has spent a fair whack on servicing and getting the suspension fully sorted. But he loves it, I can put you in touch if you want...

He's really not tall too. Must be about 5' 8". Build like a brick (army guy).

ive done nearly 3k on my 03 rsvr and love it!
a few little niggles like the rear brake broke, fixed under warranty but still a crap stopper, front brake sh*t hot though
and if you buy an alarmed one they really need plugging into an optimiser
otherwise great!
mine has the full ohlins suspension, steering damper etc
handles well and aint slow for a twin!
obviously modern inline thousands have the edge but i prefer the torque
i can near enough keep with my mates zx9r which aint standard so i'm happy with that.
Get one bought!
you know it makes sense!
heres mine

Personally I prefer the ones on the pic I posted.

When I used to ride with my 125 buddies, my XJ sounded unreal when it was screaming away.

Then I started riding with other 600s, I was put to shame, but not horribly.
Then I started riding with a guy on a Ducati 999 with termigs, and that mille with duel shotgun carbon JHPs, that thing shuts the ducati up.
They actually bark. And you can just tell where it is when he's riding behind you.

EDIT: Do I spy a custom hugger too?

Amazing.

No baffles either, and a bigger airbox.

Hey buddy!

Mines a 2002 rsv mille. Bought it for £4900 with 6.5k on the clock. The servicing wont cost that much more than a jap bike, however I do service it myself obviously. Fuel consumption is OK obviously depending on how you ride. The power really kicks in between 7k and 10k revs. The handling is sublime and the acceleration is good out of the corners. As stated earlier the rear brake is naff and even if you bleed the air every 100 miles it still wont make much difference, but remember the engine braking from this beast is incredible so you dont need it!!!

Heres a few pics of mine
