OK...we are working on a new project and its really simple. We are publishing a new book about everyday rides. We want contributions from across the board! If you have time and don't mind helping us out it would be appreciated! Take a decent picture of your bike and in no more than 500 words write an article about it...you can make the style and topic anything you like (obviously around your bike though) Imagine an everyday bike meet....This book will serve as a snapshot in time of everyday bikers and what they ride...we want to see the bog standard and the radical one offs! We are going to publish what you write so keep it clean(ish) pictures of stunt riding / naked girlfriends / boyfriends will all be considered..but please only ONE PICTURE per entry! You don't have to write the full 500 words...you just have a max thats all....so please help us make this book happen......you're all invited!
Send articles and pics to nicholsonpublishing@yahoo.com ...Thanks! We'll keep you posted on progress!

Why do people rate it as spam when it's a bike related topic, he's not even selling anything (yet anyway).. just asking for requests.. why do people go and rate it spam? Rolling Eyes

It could be called spam, but it sounds like a good 'spam' to me.

I might, but I don't have a bike at the moment to take a pic of! Crying or Very sad

Well this is my view. Someone comes on to the forum and asks people to give up their time to write a story about their 'everyday rides' - why?

He says 'we' - who are we? He says 'we are a publishing a book' - when is it going to be published? What is the book called? Will every contributor get an acknowledgement? If we contribute will we get a free copy of the book? Why is he using a Yahoo address rather than a company address?

Sorry, call me suspicious but I am not writing about my lovely daily journey on the basis of information received, hence I negatively rated this post. Thumbs Down

Does it have to be a positive review, because I can be the 16-year old with a moped who rides it because it's all he can ride and is a bit pissed off at how many times it breaks!

Seriously though I'm interested in doing a piece, I have an Aprilia RS50, and a ZXR400 for when I'm 17. Drop me a PM if you want me in this book.

Thanks
Matt

I'll do it if I can be on Page 3! Laughing

Just stating the obvious: if anybody does do this, make sure you cover your number plates in any photos and don't be too specific about where the bike is parked and what your bike security is like.

It seems you want us to do your work for pittance really (your relying on the fact people like showing off their bikes) and you publish the book and make money off it.

Whilst yes, this is exactly what he's doing, why give so much grief about it? It's not like he at any point suggested you'd get anything out of it. He still has to make the bloody thing up and then pony up the cash to get it published. Bit of a risk. It's not like he'll get the stories and BAM! Instant millionaire... Rolling Eyes Anyway, given the posting ability roud here I doubt he'll get much worthwhile to be honest... Wink
Hell, it's not like I'm going to bother, but some people will get a kick out of it, regardless of whether they're being paid or not. I don't get the negativity sometimes...
(Not primarily aimed at you dodsi Thumbs Up , but you summed it up for me nicely)

But these people join the board primerily to get this sort of thing,

If it was a more regular member who people recognised and even liked then I might be more willing to help.

But signing up JUST to get this. Its a bit of a piss take.

Again though mate, no-one's twisting anyone's arms over this and he's being really transparent about the whole deal. You may get in a book for 500 (not much really) words. That's it. If you're not up for it just ignore it Thumbs Up

I really don't understand why some of you get so upset about something like this. If you don't want to contribute then don't do anything.
If the guy wants to risk his own money on this project then good luck to him, judging by the standard of writing, grammer and spelling on this board I doubt he will get much to use anyway.

I hate this 'what's in it for me' attitude that much of today's society exhibits.

Dodsi.....you are so negative.....is my request really so offensive? We just want to make a book! You don't have to be in it....you could be in it and write a piece about how rubbish you think the book is if you want....as for making money.....I don't really think the book is going to make a fortune....if even break even...its more a case of me wanting to see the book!

Jeeeezzzz.....give me a frickin break here!

When I was at school we had a similar request come in but for poetry. You wrote a piece and they would put it in a book for you. Then you got an invite to buy the book and that's how they made their money. I suppose this was to be expected, who wants to buy a book of poetry written by a bunch of 14 year olds other than the 14 year olds themselves. Just a thought.

OK, I think it is a good idea, it will be like one of those little books like "50 cars that changed racing" and "Fastest bikes in the world" those little stocking filler books. If you know what I mean.

I will write up some and send pics when I get back, if he makes money out of it, then good for him. Personally I think it would be cool to have my picture and writing in a book. Imagine going into a bookshop with someone and... "Hey look, it's me!"

I think some of you should write one to fill the various stereotypes - 25-30 on a 1000cc superbike, Husband and Wife with an FJR1300 who go to spain and france on it, Crazy motocross rider, Older guy with a Honda C90, commuter on an ER-5, pedboy with a scooter, Vespa on her Vespa, Wheelie king on his Bandit 1200, Supermoto rider, Streetfighter, Chopper, Racer...

Matt Thumbs Up

Yes, that's precisely what he's doing. But then, he's in the publishing business, that's what people do, they make books.

As for getting other people to do his work for him. Well, he wants people's thoughts and own words about their rides.

Short of him going round, riding everyones bikes on the routes they want to talk about, how else is it going to work? Would you want someone else riding your bike on your favourite stretch of tarmac?

Sometimes, this forum amazes me with its blinkered approach to other people trying to put bikers in a positive light. You know, a book about bikers, written by actual bikers, ooh, maybe even published by, hmmm, bikers?

No, its called using all the available sources around the world to get the information you need.

The expanse of the world wide web has just made it easier, that all. In years past you wrote a letter to a bike club, asked to come to a meeting, told them what your plan was and then left it to people that way.

Nowadays people can do it quicker on the internet (as well as doing it in person).

The only main problem with this forum is the karma system and peole immeidately rating anything anyone puts up on the forum as spam if they ask for help without being part of a clique (there are turning out to be several on here I've noticed! Rolling Eyes )
