Water proof tax disk holders?

Does any one have one?

Mine is sh*t.

Its one of the ninja star style ones. and whatever I do, how tight it is it leaks and gets wet and mushy.

What do people do?

Laminate?

Or can you get things to stick your tax disk in to that seal them in plastic and thus make em waterproof.

Or am I one of those few bikers, that do actualy have to go out in the rain. (Not many bikers around my parts these last few days).

Can I get another tax disk from the post office if I bring my wet one in, obviously they will have a record.

good question afaik mine in a bit of a state, is standard one that was on my bike so would take anyone about 3secs to nick it, oh well, im not too fussed really as i got it taxed and have the reciepts at home i think so can just produce those if the police think it untaxed.

Mine's a Velo one, cost me a tenner and it's been holding up well so far to a constant soaking.

I would laminate it. But then it may not fit in the holder?

Is it illegal to store it in your compartment then if you need to just get it out?

Stepdad doesnt even have a tax disk holder on his CBR, think we lost it doing xxxmph down a motorway somewhere . He isnt that worried, all the rozzers have to do is radio in, give registration and find out the bike is taxed anyway! I think my tax disk holder might be waterproof, its like a back peice, a clear front peice, sealed with a giant rubber ring type thing....Dunno if its waterproof or not

yer i need a water proof one becouse my tax paper gets well wet and now i cant take it out to clean in incase it falls to bits............................

It's illegal not to display a valid tax disc. Even if you are taxed if you're not showing it you can be done.
Personally I scan mine then laminate it. You can hardly tell its a copy by looking at it, and if it's pinched or falls off you just scan it again.

Carried mine in my wallet for years, stopped loads of times and had no problems with it. Just told them about the one I had stolen from off the bike.

Had an alloy one which was as waterproof as a tissue, also has a s/steel one but it snapped of on ther mounting bracket. Now I use a £2.50 black plastic holder, no fancy O ring, not even advertised as waterproof but never let me down in the last 4 years.

Got an Oxford Carbon Effect 7-stud Allan bolt version on my GPX and seems no problem at all.

However, personally, I'd cut the original disk just slightly inside the normal perforated line, laminate it and cut the finished disk just outside the laminated area. This way, at least it'll still fit inside your tax disk holder.

Cut it out round the perforations as normal, laminate it then Cut out round the perforations & stick it in your disk holder as normal. I've been doing this for 10 years & i've never had a disk go soggy yet.

I got an Oxford stainless steel one. It has a rubber gasket and tiny allen bolts securing it all the way around. Clamp them tight and the rubber keeps the rain out.

Took it off last night, was well wet.

Have dried it out, taken it to work and laminated it.

Should have realy done that in the first place.

I would of thought for sure that having a copied tax licence on ya bike rather than the original was allegal just as it would be in a car?? As for laminating it not bad idea at all, may have to take mine into work and do that.

I had an Oxford 1 that lasted 2-3 months before rusting and letting water in.

I now have an all alloy Motrax 1 that cost about the same, but is a lot nicer quality and the rubber seal has a much better design. Havn't had a leak since january.

Put a copy or even laminated photocopy in the holder and keep the original under the seat in a plastic sleeve or something, out of harm's way. That way it's protected against the elements and thieving gits but still to hand if the cops get nosy.

I had a ninja star one on my old aprilia and that never leaked, currently got a CF motrax one on the honda and thats never leaked either.
