Had a nightmare day today, and I really need some help cos I'm going mad!

To begin with I ran out of petrol, by the time I realised why my bike was coughing and spluttering it had completely died (c'mon I only got it last weekend and it's my first bike). Tried starting it on the reserve tank, but to no avail. Tried again, and again and again. Still no joy.

Managed to put some petrol in (about 1/3 of a tank) but the f*cker still wont start Crying or Very sad

It's not something simple like the engine cut off switch or because the side stand's down or cos it's not in neutral. Originally I thought it was flooded so have had the spark plug out over a camping stove to try and dry it out - still no joy.

I'm charging the battery at the moment, but can anyone think why it's not starting?

Confused Beechy

P.S. It's only done 124 miles so you can imagine how pissed off I am.

make sure that it is on reserve and not accidently turned to off! (done that many a time)

once the reserve has been switch i always leave t a minute or 2 for the petrol to work its way to the carb... then flick the choke on and hit the start button.

if this still doesnt work, bump start it

All I can suggest is your main fuse near the battery, mine blew once for no aparrent reason, put a new fuse in and it is cool now. Very Happy Good luck mate, and don't let this little mishap put you off bikes Smile

I don't have an "Off" I do however have a prime!!!! Bollocks. No wonder my carbs are fooked and I kept running out of petrol!
Left=res, down= ON right=Prime

Hi

Most big bikes have vacuum taps. "Prime" just bypasses the vacuum tap so you can refill the carbs after running out of petrol (or fill the airbox and engine with petrol if you leave it on prime with the carb floats sticking Crying or Very sad )

All the best

Keith

most amusing when someone comes to tell me theres a hugh puddle of petrol under my bike and the guard force aren't too happy as its so close to the building! I tell you the MOD police worry too much Laughing

I have hit my kill switch so many times, I am soo dumb, even though I do it loads, it still happens and when it does I am like what the??? and then 'ding' the penny drops and I am like for f's sake. Anyway, I have recently moved from Norfolk to Hampshire, I used to have a crew that I rode with but now, obviously, no one, I was wondering whether there are any Nsr riders out there who want to join me for a cane across the New Forest, email me at [email protected]
