im gettin pretty fed up now

i got a new can for my bike, i attached it looks brilliant sounds nice,

but then what do you no, out comes the spray (condensation) and i see my exhaust is blowing!

i tighten the screws hard as poss, makes no diff. so ok i thought i will try some of this stuff called fire gum i think it is, surpose to seal gaskets, manifolds etc, and goes like rubber kind of thing so vibrations wont crack it, have made 2 attempts to put this on,

yet again i fire it up, and what you think happened........ thats right still blowing!!!

anyone have any suggestions of what i can do to stop this, and does it make diff to the performance most of all damage anything??

thanks scott

Where about is the blow?

If it's on the link pipes is there supposed to be a gasket between them, on the Yoshimura on my Yamaha there is and it's a Yamaha dealer part not a Yoshimura part.

How big is the gap? More than a snug fit would probably need a gasket of some sort.

the gap is perhaps 1mm maybe 2

it has a gasket already on it on the exhaust not the can, but my other 2 have worked fine so i presumed this one would also as the fitting is the same etc.

Could be the gasket is damaged and needs replacing.

I'm surprised that the firegum didn't seal it if it's only a couple of mm.

Did you smear it over the gasket or just around the joint?

IME it needs to get in to the joint, also when you warm the joint up after application, you need to be careful not to over rev the bike as you'll just blow the firegum straight back out of the joint.

No need to put loads all over the join, as you say it will look shite and not seal any better! Most of the paste needs to be where the surfaces almost touch.

Try warming the exhaust a bit first, apply the paste, leave it to harden a bit for maybe 15 mins or so then fire the bike up to fully 'fire' the firegum. Hopefully it will have set enough to stop it being blown straight back out.

You do need to heat it though to get it to fully set.

Good luck.

The condensation is breaking down the paste, its heat that 'cures' it to seal the joint. You need to put some more in and heat the area with a heat gun or blow torch so that the paste can solidify.
