I derestricted mine after 6months or so, even got pulled over while doing 125MPH or so he never asked for any restriction documents and let me go
The choice is yours, If you dont get caught doing silly speeds the likely hood is they'll be happy with the documents. ____________________ My bikes are at https://www.bikepics.com/members/dynamight/ |

funny this is mentioned... had this conversation with jamie192 a few times this week (hope you don't mind me mentioning this ) as i am riding his bike to the garage week after next to get it restricted and get the certificate.
but then of course he's on about taking the restrictor out as the bike won't be 'as much fun'
for all of you who are restricted or are supposed to be i personally wouldn't do it because i know it would be the one that got caught.
you just cannot predict the future, you can't say, i won't have an accident, i won't get caught by the police for speeding etc etc
entirely the persons own choice of course and it seems a few have got away with it and good luck to you.
i know i couldn't relax riding knowing i was ilegal and if i had an accident and the police and/or insurer did check the bike i would lose everything, bike, license possible conviction.
how much does your bike mean to you and how much do you value your license
if both mean sod all if you lose them , then go ahead ____________________ Seven days without laughter......... makes one weak. |

i'm so glad i didnt have to bother with all this 33bhp crap,
just think if you take them out and are in a serious accident your bike WILL be checked to see if they are fitted and if your laid up in hospital tou wont be able to put them back in before its inspected.
then you will find that your insurance is void and face possible prosecution, just my 2 pence worth |

My SV isn't restricted, nor has it ever been. I think if I was one of the people who never had to endure the restriction I would be in the 'just wait it out' camp, but I'm not.
I don't for a second believe you need a 33bhp restriction for 2 years. I rode a 125 for a year, almost every day and then graduated to a 70~ bhp bike, as far as I'm concerned that's sensible progression.
But that's besides the point really since all that really matters is the bureaucracy of it all. Yes there is the possibility of things working out for the worse if you're involved in an accident but it doesn't really seem any different to the choice that is riding a bike in the first place. What I mean is, there's a risk far bigger than the piece of paper that is your license when you choose to go for a ride, which we all accept. I say accept, we mostly ignore. I definitely don't think about having a nasty crash every time I get on the bike in the same way the restriction never crosses my mind unless threads like this come up.
If, like Jon, I'd bought a bike restricted from day one I'm pretty much certain I'd have left it restricted as the little sensible voice in my head would have told me to. But I didn't, and I'm so used to the standard power output I can't bring myself to spend a sizeable amount of cash on something which will make riding less enjoyable and more expensive (fuel consumption). So I haven't. ____________________ Photos and that |
