...Bloody b*stard throttle cable (that aprilia seem to make from processed cheddar) has gone and snapped, so I've spent 2 hours stuck by the side of the road, in which about 20 bikes passed, about 3 waved, and 1 (greenmeanie) stopped Rolling Eyes .

So meh at snapped throttle cable, meh at unpaid day off work.
Meh at 19 bikes that decided not to bother stopping because of course, anyone with a bike as beautiful as mine would certainly park it up by the side of the road in the pissing rain to show it off, and would certainly not have broken down Rolling Eyes .

I went to aprilia and said "how much" they said...

...

...

£26.40

For a 60cm throttle cable.

WTF ROBBING B*STARDS

They also said 5 working days for delivery Evil or Very Mad

GRRRRRR not a good day.

(Big upz to da greenmeanie d00d 4 stoppin 2 see if I was ok) Crying or Very sad

EDIT - just phoned CMC and said "can you get one" and he basically said "you're having a laugh - but here's the number of someone who should be able to help", got through to an 01596 (or something) number, spoke to a weird dude,
"I need the top part of the throttle cable"
"yew cen only buy a complete cable mayte, what bike is it"
"It's a 96 RS250 so the throttle cable does actually come in 2 bits Rolling Eyes "
"Okaaay *hums* "twenty warne six-tie mayte inclewding Vee Aye Tay"

So i'll give 'em a ring back and get it from them Cool Thumbs Up .

Hi

Probably about the same cost as for most other bikes for a genuine cable.

If you want a cheaper one try someone like Venhill.

Fun bit will be fitting it. Probably the same as the RGV250 in which case it goes into a splitter box that you have to take to pieces with limited space.

All the best

Keith

Another one in the unpaid day off work camp then. I discovered a screw embedded in my rear tyre when I got back yesterday. Confused Finding anyone with a 110/90 16 tube tyre in stock is a bit of a challenge it seems. I'll end up having to miss tomorrow too at this rate. Rolling Eyes

I've already had the splitter box apart when I removed the carbs when I had that fuelling problem, removing the cable was the work of about 5 minutes Smile Thumbs Up

Cool @ colin - It's for the RGV, it'll still fit the RS right?

Andy, we did warn you about parts prices and availibility for Aprilia parts before you got the RS250!

If your bike gets nicked do I tell you that it's your fault for deciding to buy it in the first place?

What a bunch of crap. Some people buy bikes and have no problems with them, others buy the same bikes and have nothing but trouble.

I have yet to encounter any of these "constantly" blowing up RS's, and as far as I am aware, throttle cables are used by all bikes - one snapping can happen to anyone Evil or Very Mad Middle Finger .

In any case, if you're only posting a nelson style "ha ha" I-told-you-so type post, then piss off, I've got better things to do than to read redundant sarcastic self righteous crap.

Same goes for you craig. The only reason you ride is because it's cheaper than buying a nova, so your opinion is of very little significance to me Rolling Eyes .

Besides which, I don't remember laughing at you when your kawisaki died, on any one of the 50 or so occasions that it did so.

If £26 is what it costs then it's what it costs. I know aprilia, and other manufacturers all have ridiculous mark up on parts, and find it almost amusing that they seriously charge that much for a cable...

Oh well. Smile

Appalling paintwork. Brakes that seize up when you look at a winter month on the calender. Dodgy electrics. Quick rot exhausts. Etc.

Added to which the bike he has uses a Suzuki engine. Sure not the most reliable engine around, but then it is also producing around the same bhp / litre of a MotoGP bike.

Yep, so many owners lobbing their GSXRs into the shrubbery and breaking the remains when they find out the spares prices.

Not really had a problem getting hold of Aprilia spares. Find a decent dealer. Get them to type the order into their web based parts ordering system. Wait a few days for it to be sent through. Took about 3 days for the suspension bushes to arrive for a 15 year old Aprilia.

Aprilia spares used to be cheap. Far cheaper than Honda, Suzuki, etc. Seems that they realised how the Japanese made their money on spare parts so got in on the same game.

All the best

Keith

There's this place down south that all the local shops get their parts from - get Aprilia parts at trade prices (without dealer markup) and same day delivery Cool .

Still, I managed to muster the jollity to crack a joke at the AA man.

an rs250 is basically an rgv250 that has been tuned and fitted with prettier panles so i reckon the cheap rgv250 throttle cable i mentioned earlier will be fine.

It is far from that (the engine / carbs / ignition is RGV but that is about it), but you might get lucky with the cable. However the switchgear will be different which may make a major difference for a throttle cable, same for the bar positions.

All the best

I most probably have a spare throttle cable amoungst my bikes of rs spares for sale, somewhere, though don't know if I'd get a chance to post it tomorrow.

Is it just the cable you need?

Yeah, just the bit that connects the splitter box to the grip Thumbs Up Mr. Green , the one with the L shaped thing on one end that goes into the grip and the bit on the other end that goes into the splitter box Cool .
