Plastic wielding

The CBR i just bought ( Thumbs Up

) has a bit of damage to one of the pannels, it was dropped in a low speed spill, and has slight scuffs but the right hand front indecator punched through the fairing Confused

leaving an indicator shaped hole.
Hol feasable is it for me to rent a plastic wielding kit and reapir it myself? And will a plastic wielded area be strong enough to support an indecator being mounted on it?

ps my bloody spell check hasnt worked for months now! any ideas why?

I'm interested in this plastic welding lark too. I've got my fairing sat in front of me at the moment with more cracks than a crazy paving convention. I was tempted to give it a go with a soldering iron then re-enforce it from behind with a sheet or two of firbeglass.

SOLDERING WILL WORK, JUST HEAT BOTH EDGES UP AND PUSH TOGETHER, OR MELT SMAL PLASTIC SHEETS INTO IT

Get a fibreglass kit,

Get sheets of the matting, and piece back the fairing together or if its just cracked/what not then just piece it back together as i said and put layers of fibreglass matting behind the panel and paste the gooey resin mix onto it, once dry, from the front, fill the lines in and cracks with some off the resin, sand smooth, prime, spray Smile

If you indicator has punched a hole in the fairing or you have missing bits, same as above, patch over the whole hole, then drill through it etc to get your indicator to fit again Thumbs Up

I've repaired cracks in my bodywork using epoxy resin (eg araldite) with aluminium mesh backing the plastic, to provide some strength and structure to the bond.

much easier, and less messy finish than plastic welding (for an amateur point of view anyway)
