I've had the bugger all of eight weeks - which is nowhere near the amount of time that it takes to learn to get used to a bike. But my initial impressions so far are mixed. The RS can at the same time be an exhilerating ride where you open the throttle to pass a car, pass four, look at the speedo and think "f*ck am I going that fast?!", and at other times bimble round with the engine struggling to breathe and the rev counter slowly counting down to a change down...

Part of me thinks I should have gone with the ZX6R - I feel a 600 coming along Cool .

(granted, the RS is still 30mph down on what it should be and can barely beat an RS125 in terms of top speed due to problems of an unknown nature which have yet to be resolved, but I am really seriously annoyingly getting annoyed with it - I have however done some work on the engine and fixed a couple of broken things, the Air Solenoid being one of them. Hmm..

I shall see how it goes on tuesday, await glowing reports of "OMG my rs is 30mph faster!!" Laughing

The RS250 is for going round corners.

From your comments in the other thread, it doesn't sound like you do that much.

So maybe it's not the right bike for you.

What do you want from a bike?

What does the bike you own give you?

When the answers to these questions match you have the right bike.

Obviously the RS isn't for you.

The RS is legendary for its cornering abilities, and the cornering that I have done on it, the roundabout surfing, and the acceleration in the powerband are all as I hoped Very Happy .

I just wish I had the confidence to use the bike more in the wet. It's impossible to bimble on the RS, and while I always end up returning with a stupid scared adrenaline shaky grin after riding, I also feel a little disappointed.

The NSR accelerated reasonably fast at 22bhp. I thought at 60, the RS would have pulled my arms out of their sockets, I thought I'd be hanging on for dear life.

Oh well, winter is the worst time to buy a bike.
Ask me what I think of the RS in the spring Cool

I'm gonna keep the RS at least until the summer - given that we haven't grown together yet, It's probably time that we did Smile.

The RS is not an easy bike to ride fast, the powerband is very tight, and if you're not 100% on the ball all the time with the revs, you might as well get off and push.

A well ridden RS 250 is as fast as many 600s, throw in some tight bends and you have the potential to leave them behind.

Pending 'unknown problems' the bike's ability and potential isn't in question, ask yourself if a twitchy technical two-stroke race rep is really a bike you should be riding right now? Not everyone can work with them, but I think you should stick at it, the rewards will be immense.

I rode a twitchy two stroke race rep 125 Cool

I'll get used to the RS - I remember that I loved the NSR, then it tailed off, then it all came back to me Cool .

I'm sure me and the RS will get on fine, the more I think about it Smile.

forget roundabouts, take it on country roads on some nice twisties.
i nearly gave up on finding a 600 i liked until i found the handling of the tt600 but it still doesnt handle like an rs250.

The rs250 will come alive in the summer on nice country roads. Spend a summer with it and then see what you think.

All the power of a 600 can be a bad thing as you cant thrash it in the way you can a smaller bike.

Today I was on my rs125 and loved having to push it a bit.

Eh? Don't you mean a sensible, slightly sporty 125 learner bike? Eh? Razz

RS250 is a focused "race/track bike", so will never be practical/reliable for day-to-day riding. But you knew that when you bought it, right? Wink

Going by what others have said about these kind of bikes, I'd not like to take one into the winter. I am just about be happy doing it on an old 4T sports bike... just about. Rolling Eyes

What about getting cheap bike/car for the crap days, and save the RS for nice days, where it will come into its element.

ROFL twitchy 125 the NSR is a sensible learner friendly bike....

THE RS250 is in a league of its own and will not be cheap or reliable in honesty but if you treat it right it will be fun and good Smile

but still not a practical first bigger bike especially some one without deep pockets Rolling Eyes

To be honest, the cost of petrol and oil for the RS has surprised me, and the cost of parts and maintenance schedule has appaled me!!

BUT, I'm the Same andy that got an expensive faired 2T 125 sportsbike when everyone said get a CG - I'll make it work out, practical or not, the RS is mine and I'm (metaphorically) stuck with it.

The RS is a beautiful bike, beautiful in shape, sound and handling, it's got a reputation as being more fickle than the British electorate, and yet has a reputation for being like riding a razorblade...

I can't wait till summer, It's gonna be amazing Cool .

Look out for "BCF Meets, Cadwell" soon Cool .

Metaphorically told you so.

Andy. A two stroke 250 is not for winter riding, its for sunny sundays and trackdays.

You were deluded to think you could sensibly commute on it as if it was a commuter bike.

I did think that you had accepted that it was a sharp two stroke that would be a bitch to ride... but you live and learn I guess.

I find this quite amusing due to how wonderful RS250s supposedly are - going on your previous threads (pre purchase of the bike).

Two strokes are fun when they work, and hell when they don't (IE when commuting).

I'd get a cheap trailie for commuting, and keep the RS for sunny sundays if I were you, but I've never know you to take our advice, so I fully expect you to buy a V-due for commuting and a CG125 for trackdays or something. Karma

Well what can i say, you sound like you have never ridden a 600.

Try it and then come back and tell us how you found it!

When i got rid of my RS125 and got a vfr nc30 it felt like dumping my bike who had no power and was slow & then got a new bike who was a bit more exciting but still had quite small power!

Then when i got rid of my vfr nc30 and got my gsxr6 it then felt like whoa ive got a bike who should come with a label with wide load, and chest may suffocate!!!!

Now all i wanna do is get my bike fixed so i can sell it and get my nice 2001 R1, i know ill never need that kind of power on town roads but im fed up of having to keep my gsxr6 near the red line to keep up with my mates on 2004 R1s & gsxrK5s
