 |
|
I've had the bugger all of eight weeks - which is nowhere near the amount of time that it takes to learn to get used to a bike. But my initial impressions so far are mixed. The RS can at the same time be an exhilerating ride where you open the throttle to pass a car, pass four, look at the speedo and think "f*ck am I going that fast?!", and at other times bimble round with the engine struggling to breathe and the rev counter slowly counting down to a change down...
Part of me thinks I should have gone with the ZX6R - I feel a 600 coming along .
(granted, the RS is still 30mph down on what it should be and can barely beat an RS125 in terms of top speed due to problems of an unknown nature which have yet to be resolved, but I am really seriously annoyingly getting annoyed with it - I have however done some work on the engine and fixed a couple of broken things, the Air Solenoid being one of them. Hmm..
I shall see how it goes on tuesday, await glowing reports of "OMG my rs is 30mph faster!!" ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!

When the answers to these questions match you have the right bike.
Obviously the RS isn't for you. |
The RS is legendary for its cornering abilities, and the cornering that I have done on it, the roundabout surfing, and the acceleration in the powerband are all as I hoped .
I just wish I had the confidence to use the bike more in the wet. It's impossible to bimble on the RS, and while I always end up returning with a stupid scared adrenaline shaky grin after riding, I also feel a little disappointed.
The NSR accelerated reasonably fast at 22bhp. I thought at 60, the RS would have pulled my arms out of their sockets, I thought I'd be hanging on for dear life.
Oh well, winter is the worst time to buy a bike.
Ask me what I think of the RS in the spring
I'm gonna keep the RS at least until the summer - given that we haven't grown together yet, It's probably time that we did . ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!

I rode a twitchy two stroke race rep 125
I'll get used to the RS - I remember that I loved the NSR, then it tailed off, then it all came back to me .
I'm sure me and the RS will get on fine, the more I think about it . ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!

Talking of which, isn't it about time that picture was shown again. I think it's cool. ____________________ TheShaggyDA: I've got 3 or 4 pairs that predate my wife, so at least 11.5 years old. |

I'm gonna love the RS in the summer. Got some trackdays planned .
I should amend my post to "the RS makes a crap commuter" ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!

ROFL twitchy 125 the NSR is a sensible learner friendly bike....
THE RS250 is in a league of its own and will not be cheap or reliable in honesty but if you treat it right it will be fun and good
but still not a practical first bigger bike especially some one without deep pockets |

To be honest, the cost of petrol and oil for the RS has surprised me, and the cost of parts and maintenance schedule has appaled me!!
BUT, I'm the Same andy that got an expensive faired 2T 125 sportsbike when everyone said get a CG - I'll make it work out, practical or not, the RS is mine and I'm (metaphorically) stuck with it.
The RS is a beautiful bike, beautiful in shape, sound and handling, it's got a reputation as being more fickle than the British electorate, and yet has a reputation for being like riding a razorblade...
I can't wait till summer, It's gonna be amazing .
Look out for "BCF Meets, Cadwell" soon . ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!

Metaphorically told you so.
Andy. A two stroke 250 is not for winter riding, its for sunny sundays and trackdays.
You were deluded to think you could sensibly commute on it as if it was a commuter bike.
I did think that you had accepted that it was a sharp two stroke that would be a bitch to ride... but you live and learn I guess.
I find this quite amusing due to how wonderful RS250s supposedly are - going on your previous threads (pre purchase of the bike).
Two strokes are fun when they work, and hell when they don't (IE when commuting).
I'd get a cheap trailie for commuting, and keep the RS for sunny sundays if I were you, but I've never know you to take our advice, so I fully expect you to buy a V-due for commuting and a CG125 for trackdays or something. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade
