Well its almost time for my practical test and to say I am crapping it is an understatement. Had my final 2 hour lesson today and it seemed liek I did everything wrong, just hop that was my final crud ride.

In the chat with my instructor after my ride I got the impression that he doesn't think I am going to pass, I apparently approach right turns (major to minor road) slightly too quickly (ie not at walking pace well before the junction) and slight positioning problems on roundabouts.

I have decided that I am going to approach the test with a positive attitude and if I fail then at least I can still jump on my 125 and ride that around untill I can get the test done again and I can still drive the car so its not the end of the world (but it would be nice to pass first time)

Wish me luck

You'll probably breeze it. Just remember to do all your observations as early as possible to give your self loads of time at junctions etc. And dont even touch the back brake on the emergency stop, just cover it. Goodluck. Thumbs Up

I'm taught that you apply both brakes on the emergency stop, the front brake just before the back. Works for me. I think we all crap ourselves with our test getting close, I know I am, I just hope the weather is not too cruel to me, its certainly gonna be cold anyway.

calm down dear, the hardest part of the test is getting out the test station. once you are on the open road just treat it like a ordinary lesson don't panic if you make a mistake cause the examiners are only human they may not see it. also wrap up warm cause the cold can severly affedt your concentration Smile

My instructor said that most people tend to lock the rear brake on test so he said just hover your foot over it.

I couldn't get the L plates off in one piece so I just snapped them and chucked them in the bin.

As for the bigger bike Smile I don’t know where to begin, I fancied a nice CBR600 but my instructor said that as I do tonnes of commuting I might find the riding position uncomfortable, so now looking at the possibility of a Fazer, the only problem there is the woman that lives at the back of me also has a fazer and I wanted something different.

Any recommendations would be greatly received.

a 600F should be perfectly comfortable for the commute, as long as you're not doing 150+ miles each way Wink

I had an RR and that was comfortable enough for me up to about the 150 mile mark.

Sit on a few bikes, and have some test rides and find what's good for you.

Exactly what I was told. Accelerate to about 23-25mph in 2nd and yank on the front brake for all it's worth. If you touch the rear brake dab it just before you stop. Pretty much guarantees no skid or brakes locking up. It also guarantees that your forks will go down like a s.o.b which the examiner wants to see Wink
This technique is especially useful for those who are worried about there emergency stops. It works.
