From the Independent Motoring section:

https://motoring.independent.co.uk/comment/article327034.ece

The jist of it is that they are thinking of having Europe wide regs that prevent anyone under the age of 19 from riding a 125cc, and anyone under 24 riding a large DAS type bike (it doesnt specify the CC).

If agreed it would come in in 2011.

I knew that the DAS would change to 24 instead of 21, but that is just stupid what they are proposing. Think they should all do there motorbike training before they make decisions on things they have no life experience of.

the *ONLY* advantage of raising the age to 19 i can think of is that it will get rid of all the chavs and ped bois killing themselves on peds, but thts about it.

would just end the market for 50cc bikes and waiting until you're 19 to ride a 125cc is crazy! ]

I think the only change they should make would be to remove DAS, and reduce the 33bhp limit to 1 year. Maybe even up the bhp limit to that of a reasonable commuter bike (gs, cb,gpz etc), to make things a bit easier on the pocket (no more having to pay to have a bike restricted if you're being sensible).

Alot of other changes would just be over the top really.

if you have to be 24 to ride a bike, they should also change cars to 21.
there would be an outcry

Doubt it would have any effect on 50cc bikes. Through most of Europe these are dealt with very differently to normal bikes, often being able to ride then at 14 without a licence.

All the best

Why oh why, if you can die for your country at 16, drive a 200mph car at 17, get pissed at 18, become an MP at 21, why can't you ride a fucking motorcycle.

Great, glad your on the side of bikers.

Be nice in a few years time when there's none of us left, because no one can afford or be bothered to sit 4 exams and multiple training.
