 |
|
I tried posting this in the touring forum but so far no replies
Im thinking of doing a bit of a tour along the cost of northern france next year, running pretty much parrallel to England. Has anyone toured this part of France and is it worth doing?
Cheers

Been through france about ten times or more in my life, we only went to the south where the weather is actually different from england.
Only the weather would make me more inclined to go to the south. |

I went last month with my dad, had a great time
We went from dover to calais for £40 return, then took the coastal roads for 200 miles, before we hit the motorway. Some of the roads through the country side were amazing, snaking around the hills.
The whole point of the trip was to go see the d-day beaches, aswell as the towns that were affected and the memorials, All in all it took us 1 day to get to caen, we spent 1 day exploring and it took another day to get home.
Point de huc was amazing, a preserved site were the americans bombed the shit out of france. ____________________ [Italjet MM5A] ll [Rieju RS1 Evolution] ll [Suzuki GS500e] ll [Suzuki GSX600F] ll [Honda CG125] ll [Pug Elyseo 125] ll [Yamaha YZF750R] ll [Yamaha Thunderace] ll [Yamaha R6] ll [Triumph 955i] ll [Hayabusa RZK3] ll [Suzuki RGV250] ll |

I did a mini-tour of N. France just this summer - by car mind, but there's a lot to see. Highlights of Normandy are the D-Day beaches/cemetery (Not too many relics but you get a sense of the achievment), Bayeaux (And tapestry), Le Mans, Amiens, Versailles, Rouen. I could go on. Coastal roads follow the D-Day trail and you can read signs along the way that expalin what happened here and there.
Brittany is even better. Fantastic scenery and great little seaside towns that have all the charm without the cheese. Mont St Michel is stunning and the abbey is well worth the visit. Just don't eat there!
Avoid the bigger towns too e.g. Caen, Le Havre and the Calais area around Pas-du-Nord - a bit boring really. Some wonderful roads though and quite empty compared to UK. Probably not on par with the rest of France for truly outstanding vistas but still great fun. ____________________ Honda CBR600F4

Brittany is certainly worth a visit, went there a few years ago, found some great roads.

did europe in september, including coming through northern france quicker than adolph in '39
great sites to see, some wonderful cathedrals, nice people (helps if you're fluent) and a great, laid back and nonchalent attitude towards life.
the alsace region is a good place to visit, good roads, food and i'm told they brew a bit of 'bier blonde' that way. cracking campsite in saverne. ____________________ if at first you don't succeed, claim racial discrimination and bring in the lawyers |
