Fuel Leek

I got het CBR started today to find a fuel leek. It seams to be comeing from between carb 2 and the engine block. What might be causing it and it there anything quick i can try?
I spent 2 hours atempting to get the carbs off but i couldnt get them to budge. Brick Wall

Well, sounds like your vacuum fuel tap is not working as it should. No fuel should be able to run out of the carbs when the engine is off.

It is not uncommon for there to be a leaky needle valve on modern Japanese bikes but you don't notice it because of the vacuum fuel tap. When the tap fails, you suddenly get fuel pishing out.

I would switch the fuel off when parked for the time being. If fuel is overflowing through the needle valve, it can run down into the engine and fill up your sump with petrol. Which is obviously not a good thing.

but yes, I would include that in ther 'modern' category.

Might just be a sticky float. Any way of giving the carb a few sharp taps to free it off? (I usually use a nylon hammer for this)

well they have had a few belts and a prod and a shake and a pull. might jsut tighten everything up and try it again. if not ill have to give another go at gettign them off so i can look at them properly.

if my (hazy) memory serves me correctly, your old cbr might have a fuel pump feeding the carbs, which would explain it leaking until pump pressure has reduced after the engine is turned off. Dodgy float/needle valve almost certainly the root of the problem.

One thing for sure - If you are going to take the carbs off, buy new intake rubbers before you start. The carbs will NOT go back on with the old stiff ones.

if you,ve identified the leak between the block and NO2 carb .... they aint no quick fix ,,

its carbs off ............ and to infinity and beyond !!!!!!!!!!!!

prob jus a stuck float ..... but the lots gotta come off

Yeah i agree on stuck float, the float could possibly be puncured and lost its buoncy, this would make the needle valve open more, then when the bike is switched off, fuel would drip out the overflow. Thats what happened on my NS125R
