Sorry if this is not a good enough thread to post.
I was wondering what would be a good touring bike that is easy to fix and maintain but offers wind, rain and some crash protection that is very reliable. Bike would have to be in the 500-1000cc range and has enough luggage (or aftermarket) bits to fit lots of luggage. |

Sorry, got to ask ranger, whats wrong with the thundercat/ace?
Always thought they were reliable enough and have one hell of a big fairing.
Could look at an older FJ1200. (whats an extra 200cc) |

They are not easy to fix and bend and break easily
Was hoping for something without engine casings sticking out that easily turn into dust. |

It might not be quite what you are looking for, but I highly recommend the ZZR1200 for that kind of thing. We covered nearly 2000 miles through France over a long weekend on one without any problems what so ever. ____________________ I spend all my money on bikes and beer, the rest I simply waste! |

i've done 2 Alps trips in the last 12 months (3000+ miles each trip)
plenty of power 2 up,
fully loaded with tank bag, panniers and top box,
still able to walk and look forwards to the next days ride even after 500 miles in 1 hot day,
good weather protection, reliable and cheap to run.

i would say use the thundercat, and make sure it gets a service before hand.
its amazing what you can actually fit on a sportsbike ____________________ Ducati 1299 Panigale

I would also say to check the service intervals.
I've a VFR800 (non-vtec) and the service interval is 8000 miles.
The 4000 mile service is just a levels/brakes etc check, they don't even change the oil.
Useful if you are doing some distance and can check the little things yourself.
I wouldn't be surprised if some other bikes were the same. ____________________ Travelling around the world...a bit at a time. Where am I now? / Visit my BLOG
