150 km gixxer with gear problem

Hi, my bike just got here today. I read the service manual and started breaking it in just like it said. After 150km the bike suddenly wouldnt downshift! I could only change from 3gear to 4th and thats it. It wouldn't go to neutral or any of the other gears. I went down an empty road and tried to downshift but with no luck. The gear lever just feels empty. I push it down but it doesn't click. The bike is brand new and I'm just so pissed off becuase of this problem. It also doesnt start in neutral unless the clutch is in (I'm not sure but the other bikes I've been on don't need the clutch in). Any input is apreciated as the dealer is closed for another 2days.

Are the small rod/s that connect to the gear lever still conected? My gear lever fell off my brand new bike at 1300 miles Also a suzuki.

Yea mate everything is there . I'm gonna go out for a short ride on a quiet long road near where I'm at. Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll go back to normal .

the clutch things a suzuki safety feature so nothing wrong there

as for the gear selection get in touch with suzuki assist if its a uk bike and get them to sort it out. you should have a years warranty, 1 years aa membership and the the dealer should short it as one the adjustments in the 600 mile service.


also keep a check on your coolent level, mine started to lose a bit after about 700 miles, went into the dealer and got it sorted just the hoses/ jubilee clips had relaxed a bit. just keep telling yourself gixxers rock, love mine to bits

Have you checked that the chain hasn't tightened up?

If the chain is too tight the gearbox may play up.

The chain may tighten in sandy/dusty conditions. Like in the middle east!

It seems when they put it together they fcuked up. If you have a warentty its covered under that.

it's all sorted fellas!

turns out it was a bolt that had rattled undone (or not been done up tight enough when being manufactured) located just under the gear push rod so it was sliding up but it wouldn't let it back down.

kareem's one happy motherfucker once again! i'll post a pic of the gixxer tomorrow.

best idea to cheack your suzukis with a socket set and just make sure everything's nice and tight!

And i used to work in motorcycle clothing, you want your leathers pretty much skin tight, as they will stretch. Plus when tight it means you will not get friction burns and what have you, and the armor will be in the correct places if you were to fall off (not that im wishing that on you). Good choice of leathers though

Don't worry about having to pull the clutch in to start, even in neutral. My K4's the same way, as are most new Suzukis.
