Just rang my insurers about a bigger bike...

Im with currently with a company that deals with small bikes only, as they did me a great price on my RS125 of about £210 TPO, i gave them a give just now about TPO on a SV650s. Was not happy! said it was over £2k!! the guy knew it was cr*p and said try the net for a better one, this is annoying as i was hopeing to upgrade this one a SV650 is only about 4 groups higher than my RS125 (8-12 roughly i think).

Anyways, anyone know a good company for:

SV650s
TPO
Good area (second lowest i think)

Hope you can help as need it to be low!!lol

17 years old on a 650 your way too higher risk ,there doing you a favour may save your life !

Bennets may be worth a ring if you insist !

its a fairly low group as only about 70bhp compared to a IL4 600 with about 110bhp, its not a massivly sporty bike compared so think ill get a few alright quotes on it

DrJustice, that's a very closed minded view!

An SV650 is a good starter bike!, remember by law it has to be restricted to 33bhp.

It's a nice small, light bike, not huge amounts of power even derestricted.

I wouldn't try bennets, I'd try carole nash, and motorcycle direct. Carole Nash were best for me on my XJ600 at 17. With about £500

personally i would wait untill your at least 20 mate i didnt get my 400 untill this year and im 23 and i only pay 300 quid you wont really get much better the at least 1.5k tbh my brother is 19 and he was quoted 800 quid on a cbr125

I'd give BikeTeam a ring if I was you. They seem pretty good for young riders. I was riding at 19 with, no, no claim bonus for about 500quid a year and having just passed my test. That's on a GPZ500.

fairly sure there is a list of insurance companies and numbers somewhere on the site, if it make you feel any worse just paid 168 fully comp for my fzr1000 and zxr750 , the joys of being a little older i remember paying a grand for a fzr 1000 tpo once ............ahh the good ol days

I was getting quotes for a ZX6R which is what, group 18? at the lowest, £898. So you can definitely do better for an SV, TPO. Just try out all the major companies, and I've heard nothing but compliments regarding Carol Nash too.

17 with 1ncb TPO on an SV650 should be doable for well under a grand I'd say...

Youll have to make a thousand phone calls though, dont be put off my repeated quotes of £1800 and £2500 etc. Someone will quote you happy.

A mate is 17, with 1 ncb paying £400 something tpft on a sv650s, i'll get him to post the details later. You should definately get insured for under £500 no problem.

Try motorcycle direct they insured me on a 1997 YZF1000R at 18y old for £580 so are defently worth ago, bike team are another cheap insurer for us young ones.

Try ebike insurance.

The best thing to do is gather phone numbers of insurers and call them one by one quoting down the price they give you.

And choose which ever one is the cheapest.

How long until you have 2 years no claims? If only a few months it would be well worthwhile hanging on to the RS125 until then. That extra year will be worthwhile and for a few years afterwards you will have an extra useful year of no claims.

I doubt you will have to pay massive amounts for the insurance. But I would say to consider something large, cheap and not particular brilliant while you get used to the weight. Spend £500 on a cheapy and just use that for a bit (and then keep it as a hack or sell it for about what you paid for it).

When I phoned around for the OH and his brand new 650 earlier this year Carol Nash came out more expensive than Bennetts. OH is fully comp and its just over £200 a yr, but then we do live on the Isle of Wight and he is touching 40.
Myself, 35, a yr old bike, fully comp £156 a yr.
But I am hoping to get me a real bike shortly (600cc) and have been concerned as to how much my insurance will jump up, will be interesting to find out once I pass my test

Quite the contrary for me Carol Nash is the cheapest company i have come across, for my NSR with bennets i was quoted £3000 TPFT whereas carol nash quoted £535 just a tad cheaper, however i am nearly 2 years older than you with 2 years NCB,

Just play phone tag with the insurance companies and play one off against the other. guarenteed to find a cheaper company that way.

But try carol nash first though.
