Acumen Digital Gear Indicator

that 7th gear mystery is now gone and finding 2nd for the corners is easier, rather than 1st just as you get near the corner

Very Happy

fitted it about 2 weeks ago and only went out on it this weekend because i have been so busy - and the weather is pants

A truly good rider knows his/her machine well enough to know what gear he/she is in at any time according to the throttle response and the revs.

Wink

Bit harder on a twin I found though.

a clever person would buy a GS125ES and get a fully functional-reliable one free with the bike!

I thought about getting one, but seeing as my bike will pull from 2000rpm in 6th, it doesn't really matter! Wink I tend to know what gear I'm in anyway, but I could see it as a good aid for the track.

Thumbs Up

Probably alot cheeper to wire in some lights to the gear position sensor. Wink

No offense meant but its the kind of thing my girlfriend would need if she ever bought a bike, I was once quoted as saying that after I got a gear indicator the next step would be a pretty pink basket to go on the front! Laughing

Wink

If it helps, it helps I suppose!

find them pointless, as ive never owned a bike with a rev counter or a gear indacator, so ive gained a feeling for use with out them.
Only thing i can see a rev counter being used for (with me ) is doing wheelies, oh and that pretty thing it does when the ignition is turned on.

I always know wich gear i am in, rather be looking at the road than looking at my gears.

Love needles, hate lcd's

Steve.

I had one on the R6, wicked little device! My next bike will have one, they are good for stunting as you're less likely to wack it up in 1st when you're expecting 2nd Laughing

on the RS i can work it out from:

Arrow speed
Arrow revs
Arrow Throttle

also in 2+3 when you hit powerband its very notible (i find) more power in all gears but not a wow! (in first i just flys though it if your not carefull i find)

always let clutch out after each nowshift (bar stopping) so dont need one really

I just love that dip of the needle when you shift up, it's such a beautiful motion! That and seeing a speedo needle just keep on going, relentlessly. Sends shivers down my spine. Mr. Green

I have found the seventh gear problem on track, as it takes a while for the bike to rev out.

However looking down solved that, as I could see the tacho.

I have got a gear indicator with my veypor on the SV, but I wouldn't use it to tell what gear I should be in - that's done by the revs and speed I'm going/want to be going.

I got one as standard on my cheapo Chinese 125. It's a hard habit to break, riding it without just glancing at it to see what gear you're in. With 5 gears and bugger all power, you're in either fourth or fifth; when it comes to changing gear it's normally a case of keeping pressing the lever and barely letting the throttle off it's stop, eventually you'll just stop accelerating and be at the fantastical speed of 55! Laughing

i thought that would be more of a distraction to look down and see what gear you have selected (YOU SHOULD ALREADY KNOW)

You do, just it removes needing to think about it (not that you really need to, like you say, you do just know). Without a gear indicator I know which gear I'm in just the same. Invaluable for newbies, but becomes superfluous after a while.

My mate's got one on his Gixxer 6 but I just found it to be completely useless. If my revs are too high, I change up, if my revs are too low, I change down. If I'm in 6th and my revs are too high, my license is about to be taken away for good.

If I was spending loads of time on the track, then fine, I would probably learn my revs/speed combination to tell me what gear I'm in. As I don't, I couldn't care less, I know when I'm in 1st or 2nd, above that, I couldn't give a shite.

Can anyone actually give me a good, valid example of when knowing that you are in 3rd, 4th or 5th is going to improve your road riding? I very much doubt it.

Cheers

Grim

Turn it upside down and watch in amazement as you go from "1"st, "5"th, "E"th, "h"th then "2"nd. Possibly up to "9"th

I don't see the point. If you try and change into 0th or 7th, whats the big deal? In between, I only care if I'm in the 'right' gear, which I tell from RPM/response rather than a number.

I don't see a corner and think 'that's a 2nd gear corner', I see one and chnage down appropriately.

I pretty much know what gear I'm in from the sound of the engine & the rev counter. (Still f*ck up naw and then). But I'd still like one. Always look for 7th on m/ways and c/ways even though I know what gear I'm in. Just in case. Laughing

For general riding I don't know or care what gear I'm in.

If the bikes strugling knock it down a gear, if accelerating and the revs are high kick it up a gear.

Suppose for stunting a gear indicator can be usefull so you don't give it a fistfull in the wrong gear by mistake.

I had one on the GS125 I used at the training centre, as good a kit as they are, I found that you become completely reliable on them as when I went to the Bandit, I was constantly looking for what gear I was in, but as I have become accustomed to the bike I have found that I know what revs I am in for which gear I am in also.
