Tax disc stolen

I had my tax disk pinched the other day so I went to the police asking what to do and they gave me a crime number and said to go to the post office with the number. So I did that and it turns out I have to ride 20 miles to the nearest vehicle lincensing office, and then pay £7 for the privilege of of having it stolen.

Depending on how often and where you use it - just dont get another one. My stepdad lost his tax disk holder somewhere during last summer.... still hasnt got a new one. Nowadays they can check via computer if you are taxed

I had my tax disk stolen too; I just waited until it ran out (called DVLA to check) then bought a new one when it expired.

I now keep a photocopy of my tax disk under my screen,
the real disk is hidden in my bike.

Scan it then laminate the scan. If that goes you have the original to do again. Should you get pulled and on the very slim chance they notice then just ask then where they were when the last one got nicked.

why would someone nick a tax disk from a bike ,there cheap as chips and have your reg no. on them !

I would have thought getting caught with a stolen tax disk would not be worth the risk , convicted of no tax ,theft and no insurance

And £7 for a replacment is a rip off

I'm sure they would try and fuck us over in an accident, but my point is if you have no tax, then you are fined for having no tax, nothing else

Some thieving idiot stole the taxdisc of my mums bike a few years back, allways made me laugh when the police said they had caught some guy using it in his car the fact it was a bike tax disc and had a different number plate on it didnt seem to get through to the twit.

I have also started simply putting a colour photocopy in the holder and keeping the real one either in my wallet or in a plastic bag in my toolbox (bike toolbox that is, not in the garage)

I had mine stolen in august and my tax didnt run out till december 31/12/05.
I went to the dvla and then she told me i would have to pay £7 for a new one, so as soon as she got up to answer a phone call, i thought sod this im off.
So been riding with no tax but it is registered on the dvla database as taxed which is all im really concerned about, i cant be dealing with no stupid £80 fine.
So i feel your pain.
Anyway my renewal reminder for tax has just come through.
£45 for the year for my gsxr600k1.
From now on ill put a copy in the tax disc holder and keep the original hidden on the bike.

£7 aint alot of money thats what 2 or 3 pints of beer depending where you drink but its just the principal, im a victim of crime, ive paid you £45 for tax and then when it gets stolen you expect me to give you more money.
