£900 TPFT (how much FC, how much TPO?), lets say it gets written off half way through the year's insurance.
If we say it would cost £600 TPO.

Say a conservative £300 excess.

-£300
You've already paid out £300 more for the insurance (well, more for FC)

-£600

Your insurance is cancelled, can't transfer it now, so -£450.

-£1050

Also you need to get more insurance, but you've lost your NCB and have to admit a claim, lets keep it conservative and say it will be £1000, so take half of that for the reaming year you lost.

-£1550.

Now consider that you will be asked about this claim for quite a few years and those are conservative figures, it could come out meaning that you are left with a small amount of money, probably not a great deal to compensate you for the loss of your bike when you consider they will always undervalue the bike and various other factors.

Sorry, is that £1500 for fully comp vs £600 for TPO your figures you've been given?

Do you know what the excess was?

£0 excess? Are you sure about that?

Anyway, if we take your figure of £1500 it skews it a bit:

You now lose £750 if you claim for your whole bike in the middle of the policy:

-£750

If we say TPO is half that, though I suspect it might be under that, the difference that you have already paid out is £750:

-£1500

So basically you would have £1k more in your pocket than if you had gone for TPO and not claimed. But a lot of that will be taken up for the insurance on your next bike - while TPO you could just transfer the remaining 6 months.
Add in all the other costs and it could well mean in real terms you are only a couple of hundred better off after making a claim, yet will have higher insurance for the next three to five years.

Not a price I'd be willing to pay.

Only time it does seem to make sense to have / claim on it is you are already involved in a big claim when your vehicle is written off anyway.

Just as a side note, I claimed when my bike was wrecked and was able to transfer the existing policy to a new bike.

Was this when you were claiming agaist your own policy.

They definitely cancel for stolen, thought most did if you wrote it off as well.

We're almost exactly alike Andy, except I'm about 3 or 4 months behind you. Laughing

When you're living out of your own pocket, don't have any credit, parents are taking that whole 'let's be poor just to rub it in his face Laughing ' approach, it all stacks up when you're still in FT education. Good for you for doing it, I'm finding it very hard to accomplish. It feels so much more rewarding doing it yourself, I'm sure.

Hi

Bandit is fully comp, but then tpft would not save me much (on the FZR TPFT was £100 cheaper). Main advantage is that if you have a no fault accident you can get a pay out rapidly from your own company and they chase the other insurance company.

Seems to depend on the company and is a fairly recent way of avoiding paying much out.

The guy wants an sv, let him Razz

It can keep up with R6's, CBR6's etc around the twisties anyway. You'll own the corners, and they'll storm up the straights.

Only difference is you dont get bum bum poked on the insurance.

1) The suspension which isn't as good stock as the sports bikes will mean it probably won't be as good on corners.

2) It really doesn't matter until you're a pretty reasonable rider and probably riding on track because most people can ride faster on the road themselves and differences in speed on the road are almost always due to how fast the rider is willing to go.

yea point taken G but i really dont think this is a problem, yes its non-adjustable but you can get ohlins springs for it and lower the forks slightly and this will sort it it a bit!! i know it not going to be GSXR handling or anything but im not expecting that. I think that the SV is a good bike for me becuase it cheap on insurance, cheap on fuel, good enough top-speed (untill track days maybe), and ok acceleration.

Yea a GSXR600 would be nicer but for amount of miles i do and insurance i would much rather have a SV Thumbs Up
