 |
|
Hello people,
This is one of my first posts on the forum, been reading it alot and taking in alot of info but I need some advice on buying a bike.
I went to look at a RS125 today, its a year 2000 model in what seems to be ok condition, few scratches here and there, but not that bothered only looking to keep it about a year to learn till I pass my test...
Here some questions for you though if anyone can help as I have noticed many people either have had a RS or know alot about them:
1. Speedo/Odometer on the bike shows 14,000 is this KM or miles? The main outer ring is in KM with the inner miles. (I did search the forum and found a topic on this already but needed to clarify).
2. With a with this many miles/km on what should I be looking out for?
3. How much would you value the bike from my description?
Im sure im missing a load of other things I meant to ask, but I will leave it at that for now.
Thanks in advance for anyones help!

hey,
glad to see your been looking (sorry about mine getting sold!!)
1: its KM
2: The engine going bang, had any rebuilds?
3: Really hard to say with no pics rides, time of year. and how "scratched" it is, most RS have a few knocks on them being learner legals and all.
maybe a pic if you have one of it? Sounds ok but careful of engine, mine went after 3000KM!!! ____________________ 99 RS125 --> 02 SV650s --> 03 Speed Four --> 92 RXS100 --> 93 CB400sf --> 01 CB600f Hornet |

Yeh, still gutted about that!! Ah well...
KM, hmmm... so thats about 9000ish miles....
Yeh, well apparently the boke as recently replaced the piston and barrel, again im new to all this but that is the major parts that mess up arent they??
Sorry, no pics just went to see it today, condition is I would say good really, plus it comes with a load of spare parts I can either keep or sell on to make back some ££££.
Its tempting but dont want to buy it and end up dishing out another £600 on repairs! |

yea if its had new pistons and rings that a plus. ill get the manual when i get home and tell you how often the rebuilds shoudl be done, i think the bottom end is 16000KM or 16000miles, not sure.
Did you test ride it? Sound ok by sounds of things, what the owner like? did he know his stuff? if he doesnt then can be a sign of poor maintaence, also about how to tension the chain and how you lube it and stuff like that and tell you weather its done regularly or not,
What he want for it? ____________________ 99 RS125 --> 02 SV650s --> 03 Speed Four --> 92 RXS100 --> 93 CB400sf --> 01 CB600f Hornet |

Well I pretty sure he knows his stuff, he had 2 other bikes in his garage and he works on them himself; not sure how good he is though!
The story goes that he bought it for his daughter as she wanted one to learn on, but after trying to teach her how to ride she couldnt get the hang of it and packed it in. (Apparently she kept looking down at the gears while she was trying to change and not looking forward!!! )
Didnt test ride it but he said I was more than welcome to bring my lid down for a test drive if I wanted to have a second viewing. It also seemed to start up fine and turn over ok, and sounded sweet when revved!!
Oh, another thing was the rev counter was not working. Any idea what that could be?/Cost of fixing? He said that he only noticed it yesterday...
It was advertised for £1200, but im sure that he will take a offer! |
