battery life

HI I was just wondering how long do motorcycle batterys last due 2 I have just had 2 buy a new 1 4 my bandit not sure how long it was on there but the new batterys cost nearly £50 u would think they will last a long time

My battery is just giving up now. Still starts, but strains a little.
Its a 2000 battery and has been in constant use since 2002. I would ask a garage to check your recharge circuit/rectifier if its been less than 3 years.

The other thing to note is that batteries don't like been left for long periods. If you use it infrequently, get an optimate.

I am sad fool and believe it or not, during the winter months, my battery is kept in my airing cupboard.

Even if I go out for a ride (which I do weekly during winter, to keep bike running), I put the battery back in, then out afterwards.

The outside, cold garages kill em.

started my bike on saturday then went in to get my gear on came out some ten minutes later to a stalled bike and a dead battery. (bloody light was on)
Kick started it and it kept stalling on me, managed to get it going. Went out for about an hour and half riding when i got back I tried the electirc start it seems ok bike started stright away.

Will the battery be ok now? should it be charged back up?

I would expect that an hour and a half ride would be plenty. Try not to let it happen to often, running batteries to nearly dead shortens their eventual life.

you can change the liquid inside most bike batteries cant you? mine is brand new and I had to fill it up with the acid pack that came with it If the level drops I think that can make them worst too. Might be worth replacing it (It was easy going in).

i know it looks like a cheapo battery but it's actually really good I find. you can get them cheap I think even eBay sells them.
