Speedo not working

Hi guys,

I noticed when i came back from the peak district that my speedo on my bike was NOT working. I checked the old speedo cable and was intact. Consequently i cleaned the ends of the cable and reattached. No use.

I bought a new speedo cable and it still failed to run.

Anybody have any other suggestions as to what maybe wrong?

mine often stops working in damp or wet weather then starts again when its dried out !

what bike do you have!?


if its from the front wheel the i guess the speedo drive could of had it and you need to replace that,

other than that i have no idea?

another posibility if it turns out not to be the speedo drive is the clock housing

the cable spins round and turns the clock housing gears to move the speedo dial and turn the mileage clocks

this could have seized up

My suspicion was the speedo clock housing, cos i couldn't tell whether it rotated freely or not.I know for sure that the front wheel spindle peg rotates cos is shoved the old cable in and walked it.

The speedo clock does seem a tad loose which means that all i can do really is to get a digi replacement.

Take it to pieces and investigate the clocks before you fork out for another though, it's entirely possible that it a screw or two has come loose.
