Any ideas.

have just fitted a new chain and sprockets, all gone well and chain is back together.

i now need to hammer the softlink so it will not come off. This is quite hard.

Is there a tool to do this for you. The softlink chain removal tool i have does not.

ideas?

Proper tool can cost a few quid, up to £100 if you want top notch. Those with a bit of experience do it using two hammers peening over the rivet head. If you haven't got the confidence to do that buy a split link for your chain, put it on then ride to a dealer/shop and get them to put the soft link on properly for you, only cost a couple of quid.

I push them on with a pair of mole grips and a nut.

Gradually close the grips in such a way as you are pressing the pin through the keeper plate, then undo them again, tighten the clamp a tiny bit and close them. Repeat this until you have pushed the pin through flush with the plate. Then place a small nut between the jaws of the grips and the pin to create a space to push it the last wee bit through.

Takes some time but works for me.

If you decide to buy a chain rivetting tool, do NOT buy the M&P heavy duty 3-in-1 chain tool. Heavy duty, my arse, I snapped one and nearly took my own arm off because I had it under serious pressure to rivet the pin.

I bought one off Ebay which is better but not perfect cos the arm is starting to bend already.

Cheers
