new exhaust slower than original!

hi all,

i just got my new scooter on the road ( MBK Ovetto 49cc )
and thinking that being on the road at 40-45mph is too slow...
i looked for a new de-restricted exhaust.
i got one off ebay for £40, it looks the same as all the others, it's designed to fit my bike etc.
i tried it out not 10 minutes ago, and the performance is, naff.
the acceleration is awful, going up hills it can't go over 30, but whats weird is when i am going down a hill, and creep upto 40mph there's a sudden powerband where it accelerates alot for what it is and i can hit 50, but getting there is hard seeing as i need a long, downhill road, so for city use i'd have cars up my arse the whole time.

i've heard my mates say they changed the 'rollers' on there bikes to adjust to the new exhaust, im not sure what they are or how much difference they actually make.
im just confused to as why the overall performance is so bad with the 'de-restricted' exhaust... any help appriciated

Simple your bike is not jetted for the cheap crappy pipe.

get a leo vince, get the rollers installed that some with it and get it set up by a garage, and you will have a faster " 'ped "

Change it back to standard NOW and leave it alone, your fueling will be messed up and your engine will not be long for this world...

hmm i hate having a ped as it is, being 17 i don't have much choice with money etc but it would be nice to use it's potential.

edit: do you think i should really change it back? i mean everyone i know has an exhaust like this, and i've never heard of them having problems tbh... im not sure, the original is a pea shooter exhaust lol

Stop being a tart and sell it, stop throwing money at it and use this extra cash to get a 4T 125.

Reliable as hell and will do 60 fairly easily.

Oh and its a real bike.

Scooters are like fat birds, its ok to ride them till your mates see you.

Its going slow because you've fucked up the mix. You sort this out by putting the stock pipe back on or putting the right size jets in.

Seeing as you probably don't know what jets are, you don't know which ones to fit or how to fit them. Getting the jetting sorted properly is a slow and/or expensive job, and certainly pointless on a moped.

So you're best of keeping it stock and selling the "performance pipe" on ebay.

If you keep running it as it is now you'll run a fair risk of seizing it. Big bill to get the top end of the engine rebuilt.

i rarely spend that much on anything lol but because i didn't want to be left for dead byall my mates i thought sodit might aswell try it..

but if i got a 125 it means taking my test again .. *sigh* which i've only just done a week ago.

Check colour of sparkplug, it SHOULD be chocolate brown, if it's running lean (too much air) it'll be whiteish, if it's running too rich (too much fuel), it'll be black. I expect yours will be running lean, most peds do after you change the exhaust.

The buggered up accelartion will be because your rollers are too heavy. Ask a garage to fit some lighter ones for you, and to upjet your carb by one or two sizes.

It should see around 50mph ON THE CLOCKS that way

Just get your carb rejetted.
And get a mechanic to put the end pipe on the right way up.

doing the end pipe will be a doddle, there's 4 bolts holding it in place.

i'll look into the carb too, my dad could probably do it as he was a mechanic for many years and works on my kart alot ( 40mm carb woo)

Look in the top of ur exhaust what joined to the scooter there will be a restrictor in that even if they say there isnt there is or its ilegal. I havea firefox that does 55 on straights yer it takes a while but gets to 45 instantly. Ive got a leo vinci zx exhaust there really good

can't see no restrictor in there..
the power delivery once i get to 45 is really good, it gets straight to 55, but getting to 45 with this exhaust relies on a long, long downhill bit of road..
i've just taken the under panels off, took the pump off and had a look at the carb.
it's a slide carb and the hole in the middle is tiny, so i reckon thats also restricted, so i might hone it out abit.
