Along with about 1,000 other people in the UK, I have a deposit down on a Triumph Daytona 675.

Anyone else here getting one?

What do the rest of you reckon? Incomparable bike - or over-hyped?

Martin

Haven't been released yet.

And I suspect if you say "Hi I'm 17 can I test ride a bike that has a nine month waiting list and is insurance group 15 please?" I'm sure they'll let you ride it! Laughing Laughing

i quite interested to know what the triple engine will be like on the roads, with a fair bit of top end power but still some low down grunt.

i dont like pointy bikes really but i love them in Graphite gray or yellow! (really dont like the red though Sick )

Well, either you get the best of both worlds (v twin and inline 4) or the worst. I hope it does well, but feel it's probably over-hyped.

Would like to have a go on one but got a feeling it wouldn't be the bike for me.

Even though the styling is blatently following the trend of the Jap bikes it looks like it's a copy of what's about at the moment, whereas the Jap "big 4" have a certain evolution of their model design. The Triumph just looks like it's been put together from the other manufacturers parts bin.

Hi

Not sure how it is going to go really. Quite a tall bike.

However styling wise I really do like it. Far better than the ugly lumps that are currently on sale. Sorry, not keen on the ZX6R (fell out of the ugly tree, and every branch smashed its nose on the way), CBR600 (slab sided) and new R6 (who designed that stubby exhaust).

All the best

Keith

TBH, I don't really care all that much what a bike looks like... after all I have a TT600 Laughing .

There seems little point in debating how 'good' or 'bad' a bike is until you have ridden it really.

And lets face it, its not going to be shite... when was the last time you rode a shite bike? I'd take a bet that it was old and knackered.

New modern bikes are never shite. Its just some people like some bikes better than others. Karma

How many topics have we had on the ZX6R now? I'm not a big fan, prefer the Japanese version and don't get what all the hype is about. Confused

I am now on my fourth Hinkley Triumph and totally a Triumph afficionado, but it worries that this bike is being touted as the best thing since sliced bread when the only one ridden is a special pre-release factory special lent to MCN and a few selected magazines.

I believe Triumph have sold out their 2006 production of this model before any "real" people have had a chance to ride it.

Soon there will be comparative tests in the mags and I expect the journos to be picking faults with the fuel injection and less sophisticated gear change or whatever, then they will award top prize to the R6.

The fact is that Triumph (Hinckley) are just over 10 years old and they are trying to take on the might and wealth of the Japanese in the most competitive class. The 675 will probably be about half a second slower around some race track in the road tests and therefore will be "totally outclassed" by something smaller and lighter meaning it will be dismissed by many "Road-Rossi's".

A great pity as Triumph make great bikes for the road.

Unless the Trumpet has 'moved the goalposts' of middleweight sportsbikes, the only thing that can seperate the 600cc class are things like switchgear, build quality and dealer backup.

Is there really any real-world-for-the-road reasons as to why I should save myself a few grand and go and buy a 2003 CBR600RR (for example) over the latest incarnation of the same bike (I prefer the colour of the earlier ones afterall)? Maybe because the differences on the modern day crop of road missles is so close that they have to complain about the use of faired-in indicators and the welding finish on swingarms.

I guess a better hypothetical question would be whether I'd buy one over a ZX6R? Nope - 'cos I prefer blue colour that you can get the Kwaka in. Confused

The 675 does offer something that is actually different to the Jap 4's, engine layout. It will be a different ride to the 600's, with completely different power delivery. This will place it similar to the 749, as an alternative to the 600's.

I do agree with you in that the current bikes are all so similar that any differences the road tests find are basically splitting hairs.

I suggest that anyone who is interested in one gets to their locl Triumph dealer and books a test ride - then get your name down for a bike.

BTW - regardless of what you've read in Bike magazine, they are not sold out for 2006. Or if they are, someone at Triumph forgot to tell the dealers...
