Waterproof yes, warm no.

I have gore-tex gloves and no there not warm, I have gore-tex boots aswell but there is a prob with these, althogu they have kept my feet as dry as a bone the boots have never bedded in as normal boots, the gore-tex doesnt stretch so I can still only where 1 pair of socks in them.
Ive noticed that with any gloves or boots its the wind whipping over them that causes you to get cold, like blowing on a cup of tea Smile
I think gore-tex is a very good buy but its only good if its clean and its difficult to clean

As with many others, I have to ride through winter for long distances.

I have used under gloves, which help, but as I have said before they only help for a bit.

I have used heated grips with winter gloves for the last 3 years. This seems pretty effective, but this year I got a pair of bar muffs. These with the heated grips work fine. I don't really have any cold hand problems.

Though this has now made me feel cold in other places (previously blocked out by the cold hands). So a pair of Gerbing socks may be next.

Its getting far to cold for bikes but I still gotta ride really as it gets me to work, I've got some thick winter gloves but my fingers still get really cold, I mean painfully cold! So I'm looking at getting some heated grips,

Are they any good, do they keep your hands nice and toasty or just keep the cold away?

What are the best ones to go for, value for money and all that?

What else do I need to know really?!?! lol

Cheers Thumbs Up

I've just braved the rotten weather to take my bike for it's first (600 mile) service. I was going to chicken out if the snow that fell last night was still around, but the rain washed it all away. So after an 80 mile round trip in driving rain and freezing fog I'm happy to say that the journey home was incredibly pleasant compared to the journey there.

Very Happy

£29 for a pair of Oxford Hot Grips from Hein Gerike and £50 for fitting them at Infinity made me a very happy bunny, despite the awful visibility. As their regular RRP is £59 I was happy to spend £79 for a (very professionally) fitted pair - they even gave me back my original unmolested grips in case I ever want to put them back on in future.

Thumbs Up

This was my first trip out in rain, so talking of driving rain - does that spray on stuff (RainX and the like) really work? I quickly found that wiping the visor at 70mph was a complete waste of time, as 2 seconds later it was covered again. Also, are those pin-lock anti-fog inserts worth the money (I have an Arai helmet)?

a tip to clearing your visor of rain.

instead of fumbling about trying to wipe it look sideways,, (just keep your eyes forwards) that cleares it well,.

You can also coat your visor with a small amount of car wax, the rain runs straight off Wink

OH has heated grips and muffs, he wired his in with the electrical circuit so as not to run the risk of allowing them to drain the battery in error while bike parked up, he says a very good investment....while poor me I have to stick with two pairs of gloves, mind you its not been that cold here the last couple of days.
