Just tried on my new boots and when I get on the bike, I can't change up the box Shocked

Could be a bit of an issue to say the least !! I'm going to have to modify the pegs or chop 4 inches off my feet, anyone else have this problem or am I just mutant with big size 12 flippers instead of feet Mr. Green

Try moving the gear selector a spline or two around the input shaft. That may well move the lever into a position you can shift with. The boots might be better once they're broken into as well.

hmm tried that first, it's too close where it comes out across the frame to move it the way it would have to go. The only thing I can think of is to chop the peg mounts from their brackets and re weld them further back, pain in the arse of a job but can't see another way.

What about the shift linkage rod? Adjusting this one (with the locknuts on each end) you can alter peg position without changing the bracket on the input shaft.

small footed git Smile

i have size 13 feet. you should be able to wind most gear selectors up and down , failing that just alter it by taking it off and putting it back on at a slightly higher position.
you should be fine then,

I'm assuming there's no linkage if you're talking about the KLE. Try finding a longer lever.

yep, the lever on the KLE is a reversed type affair coming straight off the selector shaft so I'd need to shorten it to move it away from the peg, but then there would probably not be enough leverage which is why I was looking at moving the pegs back a couple of inch's instead.

Confused Question

My mate Chris managed fine on my KLE with size 13 army pro-boots on. I manage fine with size 10 combat boots too which have a big, reinforced toecap.

Move the gear lever DOWN not up. Down a long way, the pivot is located some way below the footpeg and this will actually increase the size of the gap between the lever and the footpeg. It will seem wierd at first but allows you to shift gears when you are up on the pegs too.

It won't go down any further it catches on the frame !?!? I wonder if it's the right lever or if someone swopped it ?

If I get chance I'll take a pic tomorrow, could you check it against yours ?

I was looking at bikepics and saw the same linkages, so i assumed they changed it for 2006 bikes. I aslso assumed you had a 2006 bike as your avatar is one. If you've got a <2005 then it's been changed.

Gilles rearsets? They are fully adjustable rearsets for sportsbikes. Nice bit of bling.

From their website:

A radical departure from traditional styling, the Gilles Rearsets present an aggressive, muscular appearance. Beyond the aesthetics, the Gilles Rearsets are a completely thought out technical apparatus. Start with all-aluminum construction and CNC machining, add micro-adjustability, and finish with even the smallest details covered (like the toe pegs: the brake side is knurled for positive grip, while the shift side is smooth to enable the boot to move above or below as necessary).

Of course, all parts are available individually, and most parts are interchangeable with stock components. Weight savings over stock rearsets can reach up to two pounds! Gilles rearsets are the perfect complement to a custom street bike and the perfect accessory for a championship chasing race bike.

* Titanium - CNC machined from aircraft spec alloy
* Fully adjustable for each machine
* Carbon heel plates included
* Precision bearing mounted lever arms
* O/E brake light switch retained
* All linkages / bolts / hose extensions included
* TUV / ISO 9002 approved
* All spare components parts available (with individual part numbers)
* Full fitting instructions included

Improved ground clearance

Fully adjustable so you can set them for specific use i.e lower for distance higher for track

Greater comfort

Stronger than many OE rearsets

Easy to source

Can replace specific parts rather than the whole unit as most manufacturers insist

Smoother gear changes

I take it you've not tried any?

I felt just the same when I bought some proper boots - thought I was never going to be able to change up as my foot would bearly squeeze into the gap between peg and lever. A couple of weeks on and I wonder what I was worried about.

Don't change anything hastily.
