Right with it being the festive season and being off work, I decided to do some maintainence on the CB.

I have adjusted the chain, and am wondering if people think its too tight.
I have got a video of the free play.

Also I decided once and for all to sort the rear mudguard out which was holier than swiss cheese, and I couldn't get a new one from Honda UK as they are out of production with the bike being over 10 years old and David Silvers could get a new one for £70 from Honda Brazil (whom originally made the bike) but it'd have taken 3 months to get atleast so they quoted.

So I decided to use some Glass Fibre Metal repair stuff and this is how it turned out:

https://www.gsxf.co.uk/mudguard.JPG

It doesn't look half bad, and hopefully it'll stop the frame rails corroding, which is eventually what happens after the mudguard has corroded as it lets the water in (In Honda's wisdom they used a metal mudguard under the rear wheel, geniuses aren't they!).

Its paint black now and looks OK, can't be arsed sanding it and filling it like I should not like people see it is it! Laughing

your vid is a bit dark,
best bet is sit on your bike and have someone check the tension,
id say about 1-2cm either way,
check to see if the spockets are looking like shark fins another way is to dig out the manual from the manuals thread and check exactly.
just make sure you have still got the wheel inline with the front

I'd say there is about 1-1.3cms of play in the chain.

Just wondering if thats too little, cos I don't wanna damage the gearbox.

its not the gearbox you damage, you stress the chain more if its too tight, the cush drive in your rear wheel takes up most of teh hammer,
if your chains too slack it will be jerky and again stress the chain,,
if it feels wrong whilst riding, setting off and everything id say slacken it off a bit,
get some fat arse to sit on the bike and check the tention, this is basicly the sme s riding over a speed bump,
i have a feeling you should be ok

How often do you have to adjust the chain? I just took my bike (Kawasaki Z750S) in for its first (500 mile) service and the engineer said the chain could do with a little more looking after (lubing and adjusting). What does he want, blood?

I've lubed it almost every time I've ridden it (including the night before the service). I admit I haven't adjusted the chain - although I hadn't expected to have to, prior to the first 500 mile service (when he could do it for me in the unlikely event that it was necessary).

i give the chain a kick once a week, to check the tension. Give it a lube.

i have had my chain about 6000 miles, and adjusted it about 4-5 times. there pretty strong, and can't really go wrong with them
