Spotted it in the Argos sale catalogue, looks like a pretty good price for a battery charger! It says it's ok for motorbike but I was wondering what the knowledgeable opinion of you lot was before I went and bought one (plus if it is a good deal other might be able to make use of it too!)

https://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=3801&langId=-1&searchTerms=7506899&go.x=6&go.y=18

The only dif I can see is something like an optimate will try and condition a battery where as the argos one will not.

No biggy tho.

That'll only be if the battery is deeply discharged. It says "Automatic change to maintenance charge"

Which is still about 10X to high for a bike battery.

I was all set to buy one... but now I'm not so sure? Is 11amp going to fry my battery or something?

Chargeing the battery too fast wont do the battery any good, afaik its because it can boil off the electrollite (may be wrong) or at least shoten the lifespan of the battery, not to mention giveing off much more hydrogen gas in the process, so be very carefull taking teminals on/off (it can expode and isn't something you want happening)

I think 6amp is more like what you'd use on a bike?

Anyone looking at an optimate, RING make a charger now that does all the same, but its £40, its allot bigger but it would only be a problem if you planned takeing it on holliday or something Thinking

Well a lot of bikes such as blades, CBR600 etc use a YTX9-BS battery which should be charged at 0.9amps. Unless you have a real big battery that charger is gonna boil your battery dry.

Oops, I read that as 1.1 Amps. Embarassed Yeah that's way too high. Especially if you have a gel filled battery. If you do, it is more important to have a controlled charge rate. These batteries don't spill and do not produce as much corrosive gas, so is unlikely to explode or anything, but if you don't charge it properly it'll die pretty qiuck.
