WOW well ok ive been a bit of a sunday-fun day rider of recent and prefered to use my car rather than the bike. Today i thought i would take a spin out on the bike so i got kitted up and set off, for the first 10 minutes it was fantastic, like better than ever, then the cold hit.
drafting in under my helmet my neck and chin began to freeze but these became nothing in comparison as 5 minutes later my finger tips got so cold i couldnt move them, i was wearing leather slash resistant gloves (like police riot gloves) with woolen gloves underneath which has served me well for about 2 years but today my fingers were absolutely freezing.
I decided to go to my local dealers were i bought a kool little "Snood" and some disposable rubber gloves for under my gloves.
The snood worked great but it made my visor mist up loads so is there anything i can do besides put wash up liquid on before every ride, its a caberg brutus too so i think a "fog city" maybe wouldnt work or would look aweful.
And finally any tips for keeping my hands warm!!

I purchased one of those "Foggy" masks that cover your nose and mouth. If you take the time to fit it correctly it works really well. Once you have it in the right place (and that takes some trial and error) put a few stitches either side (or get the wife to do it) to ensure it always stays in the right place. In summer it doesnt really make you hot so it can stay in all year. When used in conjunction with an anti-fog visor it works even better!

Only downside is that it makes it tricky to wipe your nose when it runs!

This is my 3rd year of riding staight through the winter. A good warm snood. An oxford huff and a decent pair of gloves should see you through the worst.
Although!!
I remember having to stop on the A7 one late night on the way to Gala and putting my hands on the exhaust. brrrr. -2 at 1130 pm and a 45 min ride. freeze the balls off a brass monkey.

Heated hand grips for next winter me thinks Mr. Green

Snoods are great; not just for biking, they're also fantastic for skiing/snowboarding. That should sort out neck and chin heat. Hands; try out some winter gloves, or go into Millets and get a pair of those gel pads which heat up when you snap them. Work for years on end and should provide some direct heat to your hands. Saying that, I hope they'd fit in under the gloves, I'm yet to buy mine as I didn't know about them last winter and I'm not riding this winter. Rolling Eyes

There is only one way to keep your hands warm, but I hate the things, had them for a couple of years in the winter and my fingers were warm in sub Zero conditions. Combined with heated grips you can wear summer gloves all year round and your hands would be too hot on the coldest days.
Took em off, HATE EM, but do miss the taosty warm fingers after a long cold ride to work.
And they are.........

Actually, customer service from Caberg is pretty good, so you might get one. Let us know how youg et on.
Winter gloves, I haven't found better than the Hein Gericke Pathan two fingered gloves. Might look decidedly not trendy, but I really suffer with cold hands, and I've been fairly toasty in these so far.
I've been using one of those summer Buff neck things so far this winter, but may have to get a snood thingy soon.

I tried chill factor stuff. The gloves were shite over short distances. The balaclava was rubbish and constricted my vision.

I've not gone for no gloves under my current gloves, and opted for a bandana under my lid for my neck/chin/mouth. Worked wonders today - and it was bloomin' chilly out!

Neck warmer (for riding) is also nice reasonable item.

I've never ridden in summer (first got on a bike in October). The gear I bought serves me very well and I don't get cold at all. I only wear a T-shirt underneath my jacket. Apart from the hands, that is.

I tried a pair of cheap undergloves, but I'm sure they just made things worse (got just as cold but my double gloved fingers were now so fat I couldn't use them). £29 later for some Oxford Hot Grips from Hein Gerike and now my hands are absolutely fine too.

Very Happy
