Hi Folks,
Thought I would stick this topic on here as I'm sure someone out there will understand!
The thing is, I've wanted to do my DAS and get a "proper" bike for quite a while now. Well for starters, I had to wait a long time to actually get on the road with a 125 as I've got epilepsy, so that was frustrating enough. You have to go for a year without having any signs of epilepsy before you can even apply for a provisional, it took me about 7!!
Anyway, I'm gonna do my DAS in a few weeks and hope to then get a nice 600, and that's where the problem lies.
I'm married, and we've been wanting to get a dreaded mortgage for ages and it should be happening this year. To be honest, my priority is getting the bike but hers is getting the house. Obviously you have to be debt free to get a mortgage but if I get the bike, I'll be in more debt which means we can't get a mortgage. So she's pissed off that I want the bike so bad but she just can't understand that it means so much to me. I've wanted it for so long but it clashes with her plans and so she thinks I'm being selfish. I just want to fulfill my dream and I won't be happy til I get that 600!!! I hope all this makes sense and I'm getting my point across.
How do you compromise on a situation like this?
Any ideas?

When you apply for the mortgage add on the cost of a bike to the total |

Second vote for get a cheaper bike. You'll get a bike that will do pretty much everything for under £1000.
I was riding a GPZ500s for most of last year that cost me £850. Been all over the country on it. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Sorry to be dull but:
The wife and kids would have to be more important in this situation I feel.
two grand can be saved up for, getting a 10k bike would probably require a loan.
I suspect that you need to save up a deposit for the house, so what I would do is save up a couple of k more than I need, and then buy the house. Once I was settled, I'd break out my £2k and buy a bike. Nice and simple.
If you need the bike sooooo badly, then I'd even consider a part time job on top of my full time one. You can tell the missus its to help save up for household stuff/deposit saving etcetera.
Buying a house is a good investment, and much more likely to give you a good return on your money than a motorcycle! ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade
Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another. |

i don't mean to sound harsh or anything but having epilepsy isn't going to help your situation, i don't know much about epilepsy but i imagine being on a 600 would trigger a fit due to fast movement, snapping your head round to do a life saver. it's down to you though, ignore this post if you want to.

Seven years of waiting and you haven't saved up enough for a cheap 600cc sports bike?
I'd vote buy a cheaper bike too, it's not like you'll be pushing it to the limits any time soon anyway. Something like a GPZ would probably do you for a year or two until you get other things sorted.
